2025 Trellix Advisory - UH Trellix Licensing Ending 9/15/25
东精影业's license agreement with Trellix (formerly known as McAfee) will end on 9/15. As such, ITS advises that all users with Trellix installed on their personal devices should uninstall Trellix before 9/15.
For personal devices, ITS is recommending you use your operating system's built-in anti-virus/anti-malware solution: Windows Defender for Windows devices and XProtect for macOS devices. Additionally, ITS also recommends reviewing the ITS Infosec Personal Security Checklist for resources and tips on how to better secure your devices and data.

Trellix Uninstall Instructions
Windows Uninstall Instructions
- Open the Windows Start menu and then search and open "Add or remove programs".

- Under Installed apps, scroll down or use the search bar to find the Trellix software components.

- Open the “...” menu next to Trellix Endpoint Security Adaptive Threat Protection, then click Uninstall, then Uninstall again. When prompted with "Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device?", click Yes. Click OK to the restart prompt and wait for the uninstall to finish. Restart your computer, then repeat steps 1 and 2 to reopen the installed apps list.

- Open the “...” menu next to Trellix Endpoint Security Threat Prevention, then click Uninstall, then Uninstall again. When prompted with "Do you want to allow this app from an unknown publisher to make changes to your device?", click Yes. Click OK to the restart prompt and wait for the uninstall to finish. A second uninstall window icon should open automatically for Trellix Endpoint Security Platform at the bottom of your screen (if not, uninstall it separately following the same instructions as before). Wait for the second uninstall to finish, then restart your computer.
- Open the Windows Start menu and then search "cmd". Click and open Command Prompt.

- Copy and paste the line below into Command Prompt, then press Enter:
"C:\Program Files\McAfee\Agent\x86\FrmInst.exe" /remove=agent

- Wait for the uninstall to finish, then click OK and then restart your computer.

macOS Uninstall Instructions
For the uninstall instructions to work, you must be logged in on the Mac in an account with administrator privileges.
- Open a Finder window. (Click on the "Face" icon on the far left side of the Dock.)
- Click on the Go menu and select Utilities.
- Double-click on the Terminal icon. You will see the command prompt which includes the User ID for the account you are in and the "%" character (e.g. jdoe%).
- Type sudo /usr/local/McAfee/uninstall EPM (there is a space after “sudo”) and press the Return key.
- Enter the password for the account you are logged into (must be an administrator account) and press the Return key. Note: Nothing will be displayed in the Terminal window as you enter your password, and you cannot backspace.
- Type sudo /Library/McAfee/agent/scripts/uninstall.sh (there is a space after “sudo”) and press the Return key.
- If prompted, enter the password for the account you are logged into (must be an administrator account) and press the Return key. Note: Nothing will be displayed in the Terminal window as you enter your password, and you cannot backspace.
- If everything uninstalled successfully, click on the Terminal menu and select Quit Terminal.
- Restart your Macintosh.
