To be considered for this scholarship, indicate that you are interested in scholarships on the UHM LIS Applicant Information Form.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ralph R. Shaw Scholarships and Awards<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Named for the University Librarian, Ralph R. Shaw (1907-1972), who was also founding Dean of the UHM Graduate School of Library Studies, this scholarship was established in 1985 and is funded by his estate as well as other UH M\u0101noa LIS alumni. There is no website available for this scholarship, only an email announcement every semester for UHM LIS students currently enrolled in the program, with instructions on how to apply. The Program uses this fund to match the ALA Spectrum Scholarship; inform the Program Chair if you have been selected for the ALA Spectrum Scholarship.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Eileen P. and Lennus B. Urquhart Scholarship<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This scholarship was established in 2021 to support full-time graduate students in the Library and Information Science (LIS) Program at the University of Hawai&#8217;i at Manoa. One recipient is selcted each fall semester and receives $7,500 renewable for a total of four semesters (up to $30,000) for costs associated with attendance (e.g. tuition, books, fees, etc.). To be considered for this scholarship, indicate that you are interested in scholarships on the UHM LIS Applicant Information Form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Lillian Nicolich Memorial Award<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lillian Nicolich Memorial Award was established in 2025 on behalf of Lillian\u2019s classmates, friends, and family to honor the impact she had on so many. Lillian\u2019s personal qualities of kindness, integrity, and dedication made her a beloved figure among her peers and faculty. Her commitment to service and her ability to lead by example continue to inspire those who had the privilege of working alongside her. Lillian\u2019s legacy serves as a reminder of the profound impact one individual can have on a community. The purpose of this award is to acknowledge similar contributions made by graduating UHM LIS students. Award candidates are selected from each semester&#8217;s graduating MLISc cohort by an award committee appointed by the LIS program director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<\/div><h2 class=\"tabtitle\">Hawai\u2018i<\/h2>\n<div class=\"tabcontent\">\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-611579a8 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\" style=\"padding-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40);padding-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--40)\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:200px\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hawai\u2018i<\/h2>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/fas\/basics\/types_of_aid\/uhm.php#mog\">M\u0101noa Opportunity Grants<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>M\u0101noa Opportunity Grants are available to students who demonstrate financial need based on information provided on your <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\">FAFSA<\/a>. Due to limited funding, the maximum annual UHM award is $4,000 and is dependent upon tuition charged and enrollment status. You must be enrolled at least half-time (4 credits as a graduate student) to receive the M\u0101noa Opportunity Grant. Graduate students enrolled in a 1 credit full-time course will not be considered for this grant. Preference is given to those students who meet the FAFSA priority deadline of February 1st and are residents of the State of Hawai\u02bbi.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/fas\/basics\/types_of_aid\/uhm.php#pac\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Pacific Islander Scholarships<\/span><\/a> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Pacific Islander Scholarships are available to students who demonstrate financial need based on information provided on your <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\">FAFSA<\/a>, are from eligible Pacific Island districts, commonwealths, territories, jurisdictions, states, or nations which do not provide public institutions that grant baccalaureate degrees and pay the 150% resident tuition rate at UHM. Since funding is limited, preference will be given to those who meet the FAFSA priority deadline of February 1st.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.eastwestcenter.org\/education\/student-programs\">East-West Center Student Programs:&nbsp;Opportunities for Study &amp; Scholarships<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Various scholarship\/fellowship opportunities for graduate program studies. Specific details are available on the East-West web site under the &#8220;Scholarships and Fellowships&#8221; section of the Student Programs page.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/friendsofthelibraryofhawaii.org\/scholarships\/\">Friends of the Libraries of Hawai\u02bbi<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Friends of the Library of Hawai\u02bbi awards up to $25,000 in scholarships annually to Hawai\u02bbi residents seeking a Master&#8217;s Degree in Library Science at the University of Hawai\u02bbi. The scholarships provide financial assistance to students who are currently enrolled in the Library and Information Science Program, or who have been accepted for enrollment in the fall or spring semester. Applications are typically due by late May.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.folkhawaii.com\">Friends of the Libraries, Kona ($1000)<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This scholarship is open to students pursuing a master\u2019s degree in library science at the UHM. Students must be residents of the State of Hawai\u02bbi and preference is given to Big Island residents. For the application form and additional requirements, please visit the F.O.L.K. website. The annual deadline is in April and scholarships are awarded by June 1.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/haslhawaii.weebly.com\/scholarship.html\">Hawai\u02bbi Association of School Librarians (HASL) Scholarship <\/a>($500)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Hawai\u02bbi residents who are HASL members and join the MLISc program may apply for this $500 scholarship offered once yearly. For the application form and additional requirements, please visit the HASL website.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org\/grants-and-scholarships-for-community-causes-and-students\">Hawai\u02bbi Community Foundation<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Hawai\u02bbi Community Foundation recognizes the growing challenge of supporting students who are motivated to attain their degrees and achieve their career goals. HCF&#8217;s scholarship program consists of over 190 different scholarship funds established by generous individuals, businesses, organizations, and private foundations. All of them are dedicated to making sure that educational opportunities are available to Hawaii students who need and deserve them.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiilibraryassociation.org\/student-scholarship.html\">Hawai\u02bbi Library Association<\/a> (varies, up to $1000)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This award is funded at various levels up to $1000. The number of scholarships awarded each year will be dependent on the current financial status of HLA. The HLA Scholarship committee will evaluate the applications and make the decisions on the awards.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiistatefcu.com\/member-resources\/scholarship\">Hawai\u02bbi State Federal Credit Union Scholarship<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Established in 1996, the Hawai\u02bbi State FCU Lowell Kalapa Scholarship Program has awarded over $479,000 to some of Hawai\u02bbi&#8217;s best and brightest students who sought to improve their lives through the pursuit of a higher education.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksbe.edu\/apply\/financial_aid\/college_scholarships\/\">Kamehameha Schools Scholarships<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Kamehameha Schools (KS) college scholarships are available to undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate financial need and are committed to contributing to the l\u0101hui. KS policy is to give preference to applicants of Hawaiian ancestry to the extent permitted by law. To demonstrate this commitment, the ALA and its units provide more than $300,000 annually for study in a master&#8217;s degree in library and information studies from an ALA accredited program, or for a master&#8217;s degree with a specialty in school librarianship that meets the ALA curriculum guidelines for a Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) accredited unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The scholarship process is open annually from September &#8211; March. Applications and reference forms (which must be submitted on-line) are available during that time period. Our aim is to increase the number of racially and ethnically diverse professionals working as leaders in the field of library and information science to best position libraries and institutions at the core of today\u2019s culturally diverse communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Note: The Program matches the Spectrum scholarship. Inform the Program Director if you have been selected for the Spectrum Scholarship.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.aallnet.org\/education-training\/scholarships\/\">American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) Scholarships<\/a> <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>(varying amounts from $1000-$3500)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The American Association of Law Libraries is committed to providing opportunities for professional growth. Each year, the Association awards scholarships in significant amounts to assist individuals in achieving their goal of becoming a law librarian. Students with any combination of Law degree, Library degree, or students seeking either degree may apply. Minorities are particularly encouraged to apply.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.arl.org\/category\/our-priorities\/diversity-equity-inclusion\/kaleidoscope-program\/\">Association of Research Libraries Kaleidoscope Program<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The ARL Kaleidoscope Program, funded by ARL member libraries, offers up to $10,000 in tuition support to students currently enrolled in an ALA-accredited MLIS program. The fellowship will assist students pursuing graduate studies in the information sciences, librarianship, or closely related field, that advance the frontiers of digital information and technology. Nominees should demonstrate intellectual and personal qualities consistent with those of Paul Evan Peters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:24px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group is-layout-flow wp-container-core-group-is-layout-81d5c4b5 wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-large-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reforma.org\/scholarship\">REFORMA Scholarship<\/a><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em>(varies, up to $1,500)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since 1971, REFORMA has supported the active recruitment of bilingual and bicultural librarians to meet the information needs of the Spanish-speaking community. The REFORMA Scholarship provides financial assistance to encourage and enable Latinos and\/or Spanish speakers to pursue or advance a career in Library and Information Science. The scholarship is open to students who qualify for graduate study in Library and Information Science who are Spanish-speakers or interested in serving Latinos or the Spanish-speaking. The scholarships are not restricted by age, sex, creed, national origin, or minority group\/association membership.
