Daniel Friedman has been named dean of the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa , beginning August 1, 2014.

Friedman has served as dean of the at the , and is currently a professor of architecture at the University of Washington. Prior to joining the University of Washington, he served as director of the School of Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago and director of the School of Architecture and Interior Design at the University of Cincinnati. He is a past president of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture, and serves as chair-elect of the American Institute of Architects National Design Health Leadership Group.

Friedman earned his PhD and master of science degrees at the University of Pennsylvania, Graduate School of Fine Arts, where he completed his doctoral dissertation on the history and design of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla. In addition, he received his master of architecture degree at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He was elected to the AIA College of Fellows in 2001.
