Singer, songwriter, composer and guitarist Emel Mathlouthi has been called the “voice of the Arab Spring.” Her song, “Kelmti Horra” (my word is free) became an anthem for the Arab Spring revolutionaries. She draws comparisons to Joan Baez and the Lebanese diva Fairouz. Her lyrical style is infused with powerful rock, oriental and trip-hop influences.
