I think the next step is for the university to hire its own grads or at least employ local. One of my teachers in digi arts tells sad sad story of UH ‘Imiloa Museum hiring TORONTO firm instead of him to do all video production. Toronto firm hire Vancouver firm, who hired him. So he ended up with the work, but only a third of the money. And even sadder for UH – during the original bid process, he was the lowest bidder.

Lesson: Developing students through education into talented, knowledgeable people isn’t enough. We need to have faith in their talent and knowledge by hiring them.
