On March 25, more than 2,000 students from the welcomed the crew, Hawai?i educators and Hawaiian voyaging canoes 贬ō办ū濒别?补 and Hikianalia at Point England in Auckland.

The educational leaders were in New Zealand for an education summit. Their delegation included University of Hawai?i President David Lassner, Superintendent Kathryn Matayoshi and leaders from , , Hawai?i charter schools and the .

The students wrote and performed three oli (chants), together with their community elders, on the beach to welcome 贬ō办ū濒别?补 and Hikianalia. The group also received a tour of the schools’ technology program and pioneering efforts to blend indigenous wisdom and STEM education.

This event brings together Hawai?i’s educators with the students and teachers at the forefront of 21st century innovation for Maori and Pasifika indigenous wisdom in education.

The visit is a part of a week-long education summit examining how the outlook of the navigator, caring for our environment and other key principles of the Mālama Honua Worldwide Voyage can be brought to life in the classroom.
