The San Andreas is certainly strike-slip, and the horizontal motions are about 10x the vertical motions that we’ve found. The signal we discuss, wish is a result of the horizontal motions, isn’t showing that the ground has just now started moving vertically, but rather we are getting a measurement of how it has been moving vertically since the last major earthquake. We knew that there should be some kind of motion, but this gives us a better idea of how things actually look, and will help improve how we look at the earthquake cycle.

He was able to use video to translate vibrating potato chip bags into microphones.

Probably you have something much better, but just curious!

Will it possibly somehow be a causing factor in setting off the horizontal damage? Or, could it actually help ease the stresses in some manner?
