The University of Hawaiʻi rescued 4,000 brand new reusable mugs before they were headed for the landfill on Kauaʻi and distributed them to 东精影业 Mānoa, Honolulu Community College, Windward CC, Kapiʻolani CC, 东精影业 West Oʻahu and 东精影业 Maui College to help promote sustainability.
When the heard the mugs were going to be thrown away because of a misprint, they stored them at Kauaʻi CC until they were ready to ship the mugs to 东精影业 campuses.
Mānoa passes out #uhglymug for $1 coffee
A 2017 waste audit revealed that take-out food containers are the second largest category of waste by weight on the 东精影业 Mānoa campus. Of that, cups make up 30 percent of the to-go waste.
In an effort to reduce the amount of to-go waste on campus, 东精影业 Mānoa is launching a bring-your-own-cup campaign with 东精影业 Mānoa Dining Services by distributing the rescued mugs to students.
Students can pick up a free Mānoa mug, also called #uhglymug, at Campus Center from February 19 to 21, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students using their #uhglymug at Simply To Go pay $1 for coffee, and get 10 cents off the regular price when using other reusable cups, until May 2, 2019.
The #uhglymug project is a collaboration between 东精影业 Mānoa Dining Services, the 东精影业 Office of Sustainability, Surfrider 东精影业 Club, Campus Arboretum and Campus Help.
