University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Dean Camille Nelson will join a panel discussing civil liberties during the COVID-19 pandemic. The panel is scheduled on Thursday, December 10, from noon to 1:30 p.m. (HST) via Zoom. .

The panel—“Civil Liberties, Judicial Administration and COVID-19”—will be moderated by Mark Bennett, Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

Presented by the American Judicature Society as its 2020 annual program, the panel will also feature Hawaiʻi Chief Justice Mark Recktenwald, and former U.S. Acting Solicitor General Neal Katyal.

Katyal will be the primary speaker, and Recktenwald and Nelson will be respondent panelists.

Katyal served as acting solicitor general under former President Barack Obama. He is now a partner at the Hogan Lovells Washington D.C. office and the Paul and Patricia Saunders Professor of National Security Law at Georgetown University Law Center.
