Five players earned All-Big West honors, the conference announced May 19. junior right-hander Isaiah Magdaleno has been named Big West Pitcher of the Week for the third consecutive week.

Magdaleno captured the conference honor after delivering his second complete-game, one-hit shutout in his last three starts, propelling the Rainbow Warriors to a 4-0 victory over CSUN on May 13 at Les Murakami Stadium. The Los Angeles native overpowered the Matadors, striking out 14 batters without issuing a single walk to secure his seventh win of the season.

In his last three outings, Magdaleno owns a 0.35 ERA with 39 strikeouts to just two walks over 26.0 innings, giving up a run on six hits. He is the first pitcher in program history to throw multiple one-hit shutouts in a single season and the first pitcher nationally since 2017 to have at least two nine-inning, one-hit shutouts in a year.

This latest accolade highlights one of the most dominant three-game pitching stretches in program history. Magdaleno began this recent streak on May 1 with a historic 16-strikeout, one-hit complete-game shutout against UC Riverside. He followed that up on May 8 by holding UC Davis to just one run on four hits while striking out nine over eight innings.

Magdaleno is the first Big West pitcher since 2018 to earn the weekly honor three weeks in a row. It鈥檚 also the fourth time overall this year that he has been named conference pitcher of the week, the first to accomplish that since 2019.

Magdaleno and the Rainbow Warriors will head into the Big West postseason as the No. 4-seed in the tournament. 东精影业 Mānoa will play in a single-elimination game May 20, at 3 p.m. HST in Irvine, California.

University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo pitcher Blake Saucedo has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II West Region Pitcher of the Week following his nine-inning complete-game shutout performance in a 3鈥0 victory over Hawaiʻi Pacific University (HPU), May 1.

Saucedo made his second start of the season in the series-opening game against HPU, tossing all nine innings with six hits, two walks and four hit batsmen surrendered while striking out seven batters.

“It’s just the best outing I’ve had in my career for sure,” Saucedo said. “I finished the sixth inning and was like, ‘Okay, let me get seven for a quality start,’ and then I was like, ‘Okay, let me go to eight.’ I struck out the side in the eighth. I was like, ‘Why not one more?’ The coaches asked me how I was feeling—I was like, ‘Coach, you don’t even gotta ask me. I’m ready to go.’”

Saucedo was also selected as the Pacific West Conference Pitcher of the Week for the final week of the regular season.

First-year head coach Panita Thanatharn earned Big West Co-Coach of the Year honors, sophomore Taryn Irimata was voted Big West Pitcher of the Year and a total of seven Rainbow Wahine garnered all-conference honors, announced on May 5.

东精影业 Mānoa鈥檚 seven All-Big West selections—as voted on by the league鈥檚 10 head coaches—are the most for the Rainbow Wahine since 2017. Milan Ah Yat (junior, shortshop), Millie Fidge (senior, first base/pitcher), Irimata (sophomore, pitcher) and Jamie McGaughey (junior, third base/first base) were voted to the All-Big West First Team, while Hannah Pitts (senior, pitcher) and Kayara Tuiloma (sophomore, left field) were placed on the second team. Rookie Briana Maio-Silva rounded out the awardees, becoming just the 12th 东精影业 player to earn a spot on the Big West’s All-Freshman Team.

Thanatharn led the ‘Bows to a 29-18 overall record and a 21-6 mark in conference to claim the second seed in this week’s Big West Championship. After a slow start, the Rainbow Wahine caught fire during the conference season, winning seven of nine series鈥攊ncluding five series sweeps. It is only the sixth time in program history that 东精影业 has reached the 20-win plateau in conference play.

Irimata, a Campbell High School graduate from ʻEwa Beach, leads the league with a 2.21 overall earned-run average and a minuscule 1.60 ERA in conference games. Irimata leads the team in strikeouts (83), complete games (13), shutouts (5) and innings pitched (117.0), while holding opponents to a .216 batting average.

The Rainbow Wahine earned the No. 2 seed in the double-elimination Big West Softball Championship at Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, California. 东精影业 will play the winner of No. 3 seed UC Santa Barbara vs. No. 6 seed UC San Diego on May 7.

鈥檚 Isaiah Magdaleno has earned several national pitcher of the week honors after putting together a masterpiece performance on May 1 against UC Riverside. The junior struck out 16 batters in a complete game, one-hit shutout in which he took a no-hitter into the ninth inning.

Magdaleno’s national honors

Magdaleno was dominant from the opening pitch, becoming the only pitcher in the country this year to throw a complete-game shutout with at least 16 strikeouts. He punched out at least one batter in every inning, including multiple punch-outs in each of the first six frames, on his way to allowing just one hit and one walk on 107 pitches.

Gerald Ako, Isaiah Magdaleno and Derek Tatsuno take a photo the day after Magdaleno’s pitching performance.

The right-hander was perfect through 6.1 innings before issuing a walk on a 3-2 pitch that narrowly missed the zone. He carried the no-hitter into the ninth inning before allowing his first hit on an infield chopper that bounced over the head of third baseman Tate Shimao with one out in the final frame.

Despite losing the no-hit bid with two outs to go, Magdaleno settled down and picked up a strikeout to strand the tying run at third and preserve the win, setting the tone for 东精影业‘s three-game sweep of the Highlanders.

Magdaleno’s masterpiece marked the first complete-game effort by a Rainbow Warrior pitcher since Randy Abshier on April 22, 2023. He is one of only six pitchers nationally to strike out 16 or more batters in a game this year. In doing so, he became just the third pitcher in program history—and the first since 1979—to strike out at least 16 batters in a game, joining Gerald Ako and program record-holder Derek Tatsuno, who famously struck out 20.
