Bernadette Baraquio<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

A career journalist who serves as a specialist in media design and production at the College of Social Sciences<\/a> won an award for outstanding achievement in media by the Hawaiʻi<\/span> Filipino Chronicle<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Bernadette Baraquio<\/strong> will be celebrated by the newspaper at its 25th anniversary gala dinner on November 23 at the Ala Moana Hotel. She has served as creative director and executive producer for the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at M\u0101noa student-driven news magazine show, 东精影业Mtv<\/abbr><\/a>, which earned four Telly Awards<\/a> and numerous accolades from the local chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.<\/p>\n

“As a full-blooded Filipina, I am honored to be recognized during this special silver jubilee and am grateful to the College of Social Sciences for providing a venue to share my knowledge and experience in the classroom,” said Baraquio. “I hope to continue nurturing more Filipino storytellers who embrace the idea that every seed planted will produce the sweetest fruits of life.”<\/p>\n

The award winner has three 东精影业<\/abbr> degrees: an associate\u2019s degree in liberal arts from Leeward Community College, a bachelor\u2019s in broadcast journalism and master\u2019s in communications with an emphasis on strategic organizational communication and visual storytelling from 东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa.<\/p>\n

Since 2011 she has trained and mentored students at the School of Communications. Among her former students are notable journalists of Filipino ancestry, including Hawaiʻi<\/span> News Now Sunrise traffic anchor Lacy Deniz<\/strong>, KITV4<\/abbr> anchor and reporter Moanikeala Nabarro<\/strong> and CBS<\/abbr> Sacramento TV<\/abbr> anchor Jordan Segundo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

She has nearly 25 years of journalism experience in print, radio, broadcast TV<\/abbr> and public relations. In 2004, she founded Just a Girl Productions and launched one of the first “100 percent original, 100 percent local” television shows, Living Local with the Baraquios<\/em>, which still airs today.<\/p>\n
