A Honolulu Community College<\/a> student has been chosen as one of the recipients of the 2019 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship<\/a> and will receive $1,000.<\/p>\n

The Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholarship Program<\/a> helps new Phi Theta Kappa<\/a> (PTK<\/abbr>) members, like Honolulu CC<\/abbr>\u2019s Woody Ross<\/strong>, defray educational expenses while enrolled in associate degree programs. Scholars are encouraged to assume leadership roles by participating in society programs and are selected based on scholastic achievement, community service and leadership potential. A total of $207,000 was awarded and nearly 900 applications were received.<\/p>\n

“I am humbled and honored to be selected for this scholarship to help pay for my educational expenses in the Diesel Mechanics Technology program at Honolulu Community College,” said Ross. “I am also looking forward to the leadership development opportunities provided by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation.”<\/p>\n

“We are proud of Woody for receiving this well-deserved scholarship,” said Honolulu CC<\/abbr> Interim Chancellor Karen Lee<\/strong>. “Scholarships are critical for students who are often juggling school with work and caring for family members.”<\/p>\n

“Woody serves as an officer for PTK<\/abbr> and is an active participant in many of the Phi Theta Kappa activities. I cannot think of a more deserving student to receive this scholarship and leadership development opportunities,” said Lena Low<\/strong>, professor and lead PTK<\/abbr> advisor.<\/p>\n

Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at community colleges and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders. The society is made up of more than 3.5 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in 11 nations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
