The Raku <span aria-label=\"Hoolaulea\">Ho&#699;olaule&#699;a<\/span> exhibition opens on November 8, highlighting artwork from the three-day community ceramics workshop that was held at Camp <span aria-label=\"Mokuleia\">Mokul&#275;&#699;ia<\/span> on the North Shore in September. The exhibit includes 82 works created by 42 artists.<\/p>\n<p>Founded in 1977, the annual Raku <span aria-label=\"Hoolaulea\">Ho&#699;olaule&#699;a<\/span> ceramics workshop, firing and beachside campout is produced by the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Craftsmen. The event encourages participation in raku and pit firing techniques and brings together ceramic artists from Burn-Outs, <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Potters Guild, Krackpots, Windward Community College, <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at M\u0101noa<\/a> and more.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Raku <span aria-label=\"Hoolaulea\">Ho&#699;olaule&#699;a<\/span> is an exhibition showing ingenuity, creativity and imagination demonstrating that ceramic art is alive and well in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>,&rdquo; said Gallery Director <strong>Toni Martin<\/strong>. &ldquo;The exhibit presents the range of elegant, traditional and playful examples of masterful artists working in the medium of raku creating a feast for the eyes and joy for the soul.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_105676\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-105676\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/windward-art-raku-2.jpg\" alt=\"raku pottery piece\" width=\"250\" height=\"350\" class=\"size-full wp-image-105676\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/windward-art-raku-2.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/windward-art-raku-2-93x130.jpg 93w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/windward-art-raku-2-214x300.jpg 214w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-105676\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ian Nash, <em>Beneath the Sea,<\/em>, Wheel Thrown Raku.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Jurying works<\/h2>\n<p>Objects glazed and fired at the beach were juried by experts in both contemporary and traditional raku categories for this exhibition. <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> ceramic artist and educator Bob McWilliams juried artworks in the contemporary raku category.
