An estimated 800 students participated in the commencement ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>In his speech, Claudio urged his fellow graduates to be proud of the choices they have made and to go forward choosing their paths in life, always remembering that &ldquo;I <em>have<\/em> a choice.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Claudio graduated with a bachelor\u2019s degree in electrical engineering, specializing in electro-physics. He is the current technical lead for <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa&#8217;s Smart Campus Energy Lab. Claudio\u2019s career passions are in renewable energy, environmental protection and <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> education. After graduation, Claudio plans on immediately pursuing a master&#8217;s of science degree in electrical engineering at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa.<\/p>\n<h2>Gabriela Lawlor, <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo<\/h2>\n<div class=\"responsive-video-wrap-post\"><figure class=\"wp-block-embed wp-block-embed-youtube is-type-video is-provider-youtube epyt-figure\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><div class=\"epyt-video-wrapper\"><iframe  id=\"_ytid_62663\"  width=\"620\" height=\"349\"  data-origwidth=\"620\" data-origheight=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/bECtiVoFHnw?enablejsapi=1&origin=https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu&rel=0&autoplay=0&cc_load_policy=0&cc_lang_pref=&iv_load_policy=1&loop=0&fs=1&playsinline=0&autohide=2&theme=dark&color=red&controls=1&disablekb=0&\" class=\"__youtube_prefs__  no-lazyload\" title=\"Gabriela Lawlor: UH Hilo fall 2019 commencement student speaker\"  allow=\"fullscreen; accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen data-no-lazy=\"1\" data-skipgform_ajax_framebjll=\"\"><\/iframe><\/div><\/div><\/figure><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/\"><abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo<\/a> awarded approximately 170 degrees and\/or certificates at the campus&#8217; Fall 2019 Commencement held December 21 at the Vulcan Gymnasium and featured Vulcan tennis player <strong>Gabriela Lawlor<\/strong> as the student speaker.<\/p>\n<p>Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Lawlor accepted a tennis scholarship to play for <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo. She earned her bachelor&#8217;s degree in political science, a discipline she chose because of her strong passion for international relations and human rights. Following commencement she will be interning in Spain, working with the Spanish government, and plans to continue her education at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo to pursue a second degree in kinesiology while competing on the Vulcan tennis team.<\/p>\n<p>Lawlor spoke highly of her <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo experience and encouraged her fellow Vulcans to learn from heartbreak and embarrassment and to become leaders going forward in the world: &ldquo;together we can, because we all matter.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Pearlena Sarono Stone, <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\u2019s\">O&#699;ahu<\/h2>\n<div class=\"responsive-video-wrap-post\"><figure class=\"wp-block-embed wp-block-embed-youtube is-type-video is-provider-youtube epyt-figure\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><div class=\"epyt-video-wrapper\"><iframe  id=\"_ytid_52495\"  width=\"620\" height=\"349\"  data-origwidth=\"620\" data-origheight=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6Fm26li69oU?enablejsapi=1&origin=https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu&rel=0&autoplay=0&cc_load_policy=0&cc_lang_pref=&iv_load_policy=1&loop=0&fs=1&playsinline=0&autohide=2&theme=dark&color=red&controls=1&disablekb=0&\" class=\"__youtube_prefs__  no-lazyload\" title=\"Keynote Speaker Pearlena Sarono Stone at Fall 2019 Commencement Ceremony\"  allow=\"fullscreen; accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen data-no-lazy=\"1\" data-skipgform_ajax_framebjll=\"\"><\/iframe><\/div><\/div><\/figure><\/div>\n<p>Graduates, family and friends celebrated at the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>&#8211;West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\u2019s\">O&#699;ahu\u2019s<\/span> fall 2019 commencement exercise on December 14 where more than 300 students received bachelor\u2019s degrees and certificates.<\/p>\n<p>Student speaker <strong>Pearlena Sarono Stone<\/strong> graduated with a degree in social science with a concentration in psychology. Stone was accepted to the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Manoa College of Education\u2019s  educational administration program. The <span aria-label=\"Waianae\">Wai&#699;anae<\/span> High School and Leeward Community College alum received the Student Service and Leadership Distinction Award at the Pueo Awards. She also served as an <abbr title=\"Associated Students of the 东精影业 West Oahu\">ASUHWO<\/abbr> caucus ambassador, a Pueo leadership project team member, and is a member of the PSY CHI and the Student Activity Board.<\/p>\n<p>Stone thanked her mentors and encouraged her classmates to be &ldquo;changemakers&rdquo; like those who made a difference in her life. &ldquo;Transform the lives of others as you transform and improve your own life. Perhaps show a little more aloha, be less judgmental, share a smile with another, help someone attain a college degree, push through a tough time, or simply see things through another perspective.
