Rodgers and Hammerstein’s beloved musical Oklahoma!<\/em> opens November 4 at Kennedy Theatre<\/a> on the University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at Mānoa campus, and runs for nine performances through November 20.<\/p>\n

This is the first Kennedy Theatre musical production in four years.<\/p>\n

About Oklahoma!<\/h2>\n

Oklahoma!<\/em> opened on Broadway in 1943 and was a box office smash, running for a then unprecedented 2,212 performances. It features enduring classics songs such as “Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin’,” “The Surrey with the Fringe on Top” and “People Will Say We’re in Love.”<\/p>\n

The timeless dance numbers were originally created by famed choreographer Agnes DeMille. The musical was made into an Academy award winning film in 1956.<\/p>\n

Set in Indian Territory (the future state of Oklahoma) in 1906, the musical tells the story of the budding romance between a spirited farm girl and a headstrong cowboy, rivalry between local farmers and cowboys, and a comic love triangle. The many colorful characters make it a drama–filled, yet humorous love story.<\/p>\n
