Leeward Community College<\/a>\u2019s William Castillo<\/strong> has been named as a fellow for the ACTE<\/abbr> 2020 Postsecondary Leadership Success Program. The Association for Career and Technical Education<\/a> (ACTE<\/abbr>) leadership program selected 20 participants nationwide for the 2019–2020 cohort.<\/p>\n

Castillo is the workforce development coordinator at Leeward CC<\/abbr>\u2019s Office of Continuing Education and Workforce Development<\/a>. He has more than 13 years of experience in education and non-profit organizations with an emphasis on adult education. William volunteers as the treasurer for Hawaiʻi<\/span> ACTE<\/abbr> and enjoys event planning and writing about food.<\/p>\n

The Postsecondary Leadership Success Program provides professional and career growth opportunities to the next generation of leaders in career and technical education (CTE<\/abbr>) at nonprofits and postsecondary institutions offering CTE<\/abbr> programs.<\/p>\n

This is ACTE<\/abbr>\u2019s second cohort of CTE<\/abbr> postsecondary professionals in leadership development activities. These activities include creating a personal development plan, attending virtual and in-person professional development sessions, sharing best practices with the field and engaging with a mentor. The goal of the program is to help participants develop and refine their skills in CTE<\/abbr> organizational leadership and management; build critical skills in communication, collaboration, networking, problem solving and use of time\/resources; and hone their ability to facilitate institutional change. The program also includes a research study to help determine what efforts best contribute to leadership development among postsecondary CTE<\/abbr> professionals and the creation of resources that can be widely distributed to support others in the field.<\/p>\n

ACTE<\/abbr> is the nation\u2019s largest not-for-profit association committed to the advancement of education that prepares youth and adults for successful careers. ACTE<\/abbr> represents the community of CTE<\/abbr> professionals, including educators, administrators, researchers, school counselors, guidance and career development professionals and others at all levels of education.<\/p>\n
