Given the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic, and its immediate impact on students and their families, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/\"><abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Foundation<\/a> in partnership with <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/covid-19\">launched the fundraising campaign on March 23, 2020<\/a>. Lead funding was provided by national and local funders including the Stupski Foundation, University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Alumni Association, Harold K.L. Castle Foundation, Strada Education Network,  <abbr>ECMC<\/abbr> Foundation, the Theodore A. Vierra Fund at the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Community Foundation (<abbr>HCF<\/abbr>), and the Community Scholarship Fund at <abbr>HCF<\/abbr>, May &#38; Stanley Smith Charitable Trust and Ronald N.S. Ho &#38; Associates, <abbr>Inc.<\/abbr><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;A big mahalo to the companies and individuals who have already stepped forward to begin to address the urgent needs of our University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> students across the state,&rdquo; <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> President <strong>David Lassner<\/strong> said after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2020\/04\/07\/200k-urgent-student-relief\/\">more than $200,000 was disbursed to more than 500 students<\/a> in the fund\u2019s first week. &ldquo;We invite the community to continue helping us help our students with necessities such as food and shelter in these turbulent times, as they also strive to complete their studies.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Donors share why they made these philanthropic investments<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/foundation-covid-relief-research.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/foundation-covid-relief-research-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Student with stress, researcher with microscope\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-115981\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/foundation-covid-relief-research-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/foundation-covid-relief-research-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/foundation-covid-relief-research-630x353.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/foundation-covid-relief-research.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;As we all navigate unprecedented challenges and uncertainty during this time, <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> students face some of the toughest financial struggles to continue their studies and make ends meet. By joining the coalition of funders supporting the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Urgent Student Relief Fund, we hope that students will have their financial needs met so they can focus on pursuing their career goals,&rdquo; shared Jennifer Nguyen, director of Postsecondary Success at the Stupski Foundation. &ldquo;In addition, we hope to learn alongside our partners in the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> system to discover the ingredients of a successful urgent aid program&#8212;a program that stands to have both immediate impact as well as the potential for long-term structural change.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The students\u2019 need for these funds has been overwhelming. Many more are applying for this critical assistance <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/offices\/student-affairs\/urgent-student-relief-fund\/\">via the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> application portal<\/a>. The goal is to address urgent needs so students can continue and\/or finish their education.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The effects of COVID-19 have increased financial strain for many in our state, including <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>\u2019s student population,&rdquo; said Micah K\u0101ne, <abbr>CEO<\/abbr> and president at <abbr>HCF<\/abbr>. &ldquo;Our hope is that this contribution to the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Urgent Relief Fund will help many <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> students remain in school and persist on the path toward their academic goals.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Alumni Association President <strong>Jill Hasegawa<\/strong> added, &ldquo;The University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Alumni Association and our members recognize that students throughout the system statewide are severely impacted and in need of support.&rdquo; Hasegawa continued, &ldquo;As these students are our future alumni, we feel it is our duty to support as much as we can through our gift to the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Urgent Student Relief Fund. Our hope is that this will inspire others in our community to recognize and support the needs of our students too.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Terry George, Harold K.L. Castle Foundation president and <abbr>CEO<\/abbr> said, &ldquo;Helping others by sharing what we have is an old and deep tradition in our community. We must support <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> students around our state in this moment. They are our future scientists, public sector leaders and educators and will be the ones that move our state forward. We will get through this challenge the way <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> always has: by taking care of each other.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Strada Education Network President and <abbr>CEO<\/abbr> William D. &ldquo;Bill&rdquo; Hansen said, &ldquo;As a national social impact organization dedicated to helping all students build more purposeful pathways to and from postsecondary education and into rewarding careers, supporting students during this time of crisis is key. By helping <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> students survive the economic fallout of this pandemic, they will be better positioned to continue their academic journey and complete their education.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Groundswell of support<\/h2>\n<p>Many individuals have also generously supported <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> students and more than 350 community members have made gifts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tim Dolan<\/strong>, <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> vice president of advancement and <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Foundation <abbr>CEO<\/abbr> said, &ldquo;We are tremendously inspired by the groundswell of support for our students from throughout our community. We know that our donors too are affected by the COVID-19 related economic upheaval and their gifts at this critical time show how deep their aloha for our students runs.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Dolan added, &ldquo;On behalf of every student recipient, thank you!
