Authored by JoAnna Poblete, <em>Balancing the Tides: Marine Practices in American S\u0101moa<\/em> is now available in both <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarspace.manoa.hawaii.edu\/handle\/10125\/64732\">electronic formats<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/uhpress.hawaii.edu\/title\/balancing-the-tides-marine-practices-in-american-samoa\/?utm_source=ActiveCampaign&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_content=Announcing%20Open%20Access%20for%20a%20new%20Pacific%20title%21&#038;utm_campaign=News%3A%20OA%2C%20Poblete%2FBalancing%20the%20Tides\">for-purchase prints<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Balancing the Tides<\/em> explores the far-reaching influence of marine practices and policies in American S\u0101moa, the American fishing industry and environmental programs, and global discussions about ecology and indigenous communities. Each chapter of the book demonstrates how American colonial efforts to protect natural resources intersect with indigenous adherence to customary principles of respect, reciprocity and native experiences and rights.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/scholarspace.manoa.hawaii.edu\/bitstream\/10125\/64732\/9780824883393.pdf\">Read <em>Balancing the Tides: Marine Practices in American S\u0101moa<\/em> by JoAnna Poblete<\/a> (<span class=\"small-text\"><abbr title=\"Portable Document Format\">PDF<\/abbr><\/span>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;<em>Balancing the Tides<\/em> is a sophisticated scholarship that investigates timely issues at the forefront of conversations in and outside of the academy,&rdquo; said <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> Press executive editor <strong>Masako Ikeda<\/strong>. &ldquo;This makes it an especially well-suited book for <abbr>OA<\/abbr>; by making electronic copies available for download at no cost, we hope Dr. Poblete\u2019s research about American S\u0101moa will be more readily available to the people there, as well as to other important audiences, including policy makers and students.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Poblete\u2019s book is the first <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Press title to be produced through the <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaii.acemlnb.com\/lt.php?notrack=1&#038;s=ea77c9fcfb00d9bb31babd290875ad86&#038;i=109A188A5A2583\">Sustainable History Monograph Pilot<\/a>, an initiative funded by the Andrew W.
