{"id":123896,"date":"2020-07-31T08:53:54","date_gmt":"2020-07-31T18:53:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=123896"},"modified":"2020-07-31T08:54:10","modified_gmt":"2020-07-31T18:54:10","slug":"waikiki-aquarium-photo-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2020\/07\/31\/waikiki-aquarium-photo-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrate the ocean through Waik\u012bk\u012b Aquarium photo contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/waikiki-aquarium-photo-contest.jpg\" alt=\"ho o kuku ki i kai photo contest banner\" width=\"676\" height=\"243\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-123886\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/waikiki-aquarium-photo-contest.jpg 676w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/waikiki-aquarium-photo-contest-300x108.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/07\/waikiki-aquarium-photo-contest-130x47.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>People with a passion for the ocean are invited to submit their best photos from July 31 to September 7 to celebrate Get Into Your Sanctuary Day with the Waik\u012bk\u012b Aquarium, in partnership with <abbr title=\"National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration\">NOAA<\/abbr> Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary, through the <span aria-label=\"HookUkU\">Ho&#699;ok&#363;k&#363;<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Kii\">Ki&#699;i<\/span> Kai Ocean photo contest.<\/p>\n<p>Photos of the ocean and marine sanctuaries could win prizes from ProCamera, Huish Outdoors and more.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Ocean Photo Contest encourages people of all ages to share their passion for the ocean while practicing safe social distancing,&rdquo; said <strong>Andrew Rossiter<\/strong>, director of the Waik\u012bk\u012b Aquarium. &ldquo;We\u2019re always exploring new ways to engage with the community, and with this photo contest we can\u2019t wait to see the unique images that contestants submit.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Contest details<\/h2>\n<p>Participants can submit photos of ocean views, marine life and sanctuary recreation. Photos can be under or above water, but must be taken in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> from January 2020 and onward.<\/p>\n<p>Four winners will be selected in the following categories to receive a variety of prizes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Youth (ages 13&#8211;17)<\/li>\n<li>Adult (ages 18 and older)<\/li>\n<li>Professional Photographer<\/li>\n<li>Grand Prize<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In addition, nine entries will win two Waik\u012bk\u012b Aquarium day admission tickets and will be featured in a 2021 marine tide calendar.<\/p>\n<p>Participants can complete the required form and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waikikiaquarium.org\/interact\/special-events\/ocean-photo-contest\">submit their best photos online at the Waik\u012bk\u012b Aquarium website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Public voting will take place from August 24 through September 7, with the top 20 photos reviewed by a panel of judges from September 8&#8211;15.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.waikikiaquarium.org\/interact\/special-events\/ocean-photo-contest\">For full contest prizes, rules and requirements, visit the Waik\u012bk\u012b Aquarium website.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Participants can submit their best photos of ocean views and marine sanctuaries for a chance to win prizes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":16,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[26],"tags":[9,302],"class_list":["post-123896","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-community","tag-uh-manoa","tag-waikiki-aquarium","entry","has-media"],"aioseo_notices":[{"message":"The permalink for this post just changed!
