To celebrate the monumental passage, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/in-depth\/life\/women-of-the-century\/2020\/08\/13\/hawaii-woman-history-powerful-women-advocate-hula-surfing\/4814547002\/\"><em><abbr>USA<\/abbr> Today<\/em> recognized 10 women from every state and <abbr title=\"United States\">U.S.<\/abbr> territory as Women of the Century<\/a> that has motivated and inspired others. Each selectee had to be alive during the last 100 years&#8212;1920 to 2020.<\/p>\n<p>A majority of wahine (women) on <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>\u2019s list are notable University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> faculty or alumni.<\/p>\n<h2>Isabella Abbott<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/manoa-botany-abbott-1-thmb.jpg\" alt=\"Emerita Isabella Aiona Abbott\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-108494\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Renowned <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Ethnobotanist <strong>Isabella Kauakea Yau Yung Aiona Abbott<\/strong> was the first Native Hawaiian woman to receive a <abbr title=\"Doctor of Philosophy\">PhD<\/abbr> in science. Wong-Kalu is also an award-winning filmmaker.
