The month-long celebration commences on Wednesday, September 2, in honor of Queen <span aria-label=\"Liliuokalani\u2019s\">Lili&#699;uokalani\u2019s<\/span> 182nd birthday.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Queen spoke, sang and composed in Hawaiian and English and we continue to learn today from these various forms of <span aria-label=\"moolelo\">mo&#699;olelo<\/span> that are documented in her diaries, her mele, etc. Her perseverance through challenging times encourages us to be steadfast today so that our students and community can thrive,&rdquo; <span aria-label=\"Hawaiinuiakea\">Hawai&#699;inui&#257;kea<\/span> Dean <strong>Jon <span aria-label=\"Kamakawiwoole\">Kamakawiwo&#699;ole<\/span> Osorio<\/strong> said.<\/p>\n<p>A virtual celebration in observation of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\u2019s\">Hawai&#699;i\u2019s<\/span> last reigning monarch will be <a href=\"http:\/\/hawaiianhistorymonth.org\">live-streamed<\/a> at 8:45 a.m. from <span aria-label=\"Iolani\">&#699;Iolani<\/span> Palace on September 2 and will also be posted on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/hawaiiponoi\">Facebook<\/a>. Each week will focus on a different theme ranging from traditional storytelling to song composition.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, September 5, at 4 p.m., <span aria-label=\"Hawaiinuiakea\">Hawai&#699;inui&#257;kea<\/span> faculty and staff will collectively present, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaiiponoi.info\/\">Hawaiian History: The Past, Present and Future <span aria-label=\"Moolelo\">Mo&#699;olelo<\/span><\/a>. They will break down the role the school has played for many years in shaping Hawaiian history and its commitment to empowering students through <span aria-label=\"ike\">&#699;ike<\/span> kupuna (Hawaiian ancestral knowledge).
