During the COVID-19 pandemic, concerns for the health and well-being of Native Hawaiian students, faculty and staff at the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> struck a chord with <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> presidential appointed Indigenous education work committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/hawaiipapaokeao\/overview\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Papa O Ke Ao<\/a> (<abbr>HPOKA<\/abbr>).<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Committee members shared that folks on their campus were feeling isolated, disconnected and depressed due to the psycho-social, emotional and economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic,&rdquo; said <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> Chancellor <strong>Maenette Benham<\/strong> during a <abbr>HPOKA<\/abbr> video address.<\/p>\n<p>To help foster Indigenous well-being, <abbr>HPOKA<\/abbr> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/offices\/president\/\"><abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Office of the President<\/a> unveiled a cultural webinar series showcasing music, dance and storytelling. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/hawaiipapaokeao\/\">He Ukana Aloha K\u0101 K\u012blauea<\/a> is a free bi-monthly, yearlong series hosted by sources from across <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr>\u2019s 10 campuses. <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Community College will be featured on the series on October 14 and 28. <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> Professor <strong>Taup\u014duri Tangar\u014d<\/strong> will lead a presentation on hula noho (hula danced in a seated or kneeling position). Tangar\u014d, a <abbr>HPOKA<\/abbr> committee member, first proposed the idea of a storytelling series to the work committee as a form of nourishment to the Native Hawaiian community during this challenging time ushered in by the pandemic. The story spotlights how the giant cared for &#699;uala or sweet potato and calls attention to an important lesson about why it&#8217;s important to think of others.
