(Photo courtesy: Kai Kahele)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Members of the U.S. House of Representatives spent time at the <a href=\"https:\/\/hilo.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at Hilo<\/a> on August 13 to learn more about programs offered on-campus related to Indigenous culture and <span aria-label=\"olelo\">&#699;&#333;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> (Hawaiian language) revitalization.<\/p>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Congressman <strong>Kai Kahele<\/strong>, a <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo alumnus, hosted Congressman Ed Case (<span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>) and Congresswoman Teresa Leger Fern\u00e1ndez (New Mexico) on a visit to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Island, which included a stop at the university.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Leger Fern\u00e1ndez and Rep. Case are members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/naturalresources.house.gov\/subcommittees\/subcommittee-for-indigenous-peoples-of-the-united-states\">House Subcommittee for Indigenous Peoples of the United States<\/a>. Leger Fern\u00e1ndez meet with us at Ka Haka <span aria-label=\"Ula\">&#699;Ula<\/span> was very encouraging relative to the distinctive mission of the college for Indigenous language revitalization, both here in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> and on a national level,&rdquo; said <strong>Pila Wilson<\/strong>, professor of Hawaiian studies. &ldquo;Representative Kahele has first-hand experience in having his children enrolled in our Hawaiian medium laboratory school and spoke to the strength of our program.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Wilson explained that Case talked about his experience in following the college\u2019s efforts throughout the past four decades and his positive impressions of the progress made.
