We\u2019re excited to welcome him to campus and to bring the community together to consider this important topic.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The event, Futureproof: 9 Rules for Humans in the Age of Automation, will be held on March 3 at 6:30 p.m. at Orvis Auditorium on the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa campus. This is the first in-person event to be hosted by the series since 2020. The talk is free and open to the public. Proof of vaccination is required. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/better-tomorrow-speaker-series-kevin-roose-tickets-275306468057\">Register online<\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Kevin Roose\u2019s work has important implications for policymaking in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>,&rdquo; said Lieutenant Gov. Josh Green. &ldquo;Roose insists that democratic governments should be making the most momentous decisions about implementing new technologies. He also makes the case for innovation and investment in education, so that we cultivate in our students the unique qualities that make them most human&#8212;including curiosity, critical thinking, and empathy&#8212;so that we prepare them to create and adapt, even as more powerful technologies are developed. Roose offers a hopeful vision for the future that I think we need in this area.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Ross has published three books, including <em>Futureproof<\/em>, focused on intersections of technology, business and culture. He writes about online extremism, social media disinformation, artificial intelligence and algorithms, and emerging technologies. Before joining the <em>Times<\/em>, he was a columnist for <em>New York<\/em> magazine and co-host of the <em>Real Future<\/em> TV documentary series.<\/p>\n<p>The Better Tomorrow Speaker Series is a joint venture of the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Community Foundation, Kamehameha Schools and <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa.<\/p>\n<p>The series is also supported by the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa College of Social Sciences, the Scholars Strategy Network and the William S.
