(Photo credit: <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> State Dept. of Education)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at M&#257;noa graduate and founder of the <a href=\"https:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/music\/university-band\/\"><abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> band<\/a>, <strong>Chadwick Kamei<\/strong>, was recently inducted into the <a href=\"https:\/\/hsbdna.org\/hall-of-fame\">High School Band Directors National Hall of Fame<\/a>. (Photo credit: <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> State Dept. of Education)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The bandmaster became just the 65th to receive the honor by the <a href=\"https:\/\/hsbdna.org\/\">High School Band Directors National Association<\/a> since the award was created in 1982. The three <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> members of the Hall of Fame are graduates of the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/westoahu.hawaii.edu\/music\/university-band\/\">College of Education<\/a>. They include longtime music educators <strong>Wayne Kawakami<\/strong> and <strong>Michael Nakasone<\/strong>, who was previously the bandmaster of the Royal Hawaiian Band, 2005&#8211;2010.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;These awards are a testament to the support that we receive from our parents, community, Department of Education, School Administration and legislators in the great state of Hawaii,&rdquo; said Kamei. &ldquo;I am honored and humbled to receive this amazing recognition from the greatest band director organization in our country.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Under his leadership, Pearl City High School\u2019s music program has been recognized around the world for the students\u2019 performances. They have traveled  to China, England, Japan and the continental U.S. to compete and perform. He is also one of the 300 chosen members of the American Bandmasters Association for the U.S. and Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Kamei has made significant contributions to the local school music community. In 2014, he helped create the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> band and continues to teach there.
