This award is given in alternate years: on even years to a faculty member, and on odd years to a student, who makes a significant contribution to career and technical education in the <a href=\"https:\/\/uhcc.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Community Colleges<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Brian Yamamoto<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_158977\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-158977\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/kauai-kunimoto-yamamoto-b.jpg\" alt=\"Brian Yamamoto\" width=\"250\" height=\"350\" class=\"size-full wp-image-158977\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/kauai-kunimoto-yamamoto-b.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/kauai-kunimoto-yamamoto-b-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/kauai-kunimoto-yamamoto-b-93x130.jpg 93w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-158977\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Brian Yamamoto<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Brian Yamamoto<\/strong>, faculty in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kauai.hawaii.edu\/natural-science\">Natural Science Program<\/a> at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kauai.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> Community College<\/a>, is the recipient of the 2022 Masaki and Momoe Kunimoto Memorial Award.<\/p>\n<p>Yamamoto, a Natural Science faculty for 40 years, developed and taught the first horticulture and agriculture courses at <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr>. While teaching courses, Yamamoto manages projects such as <span aria-label=\"Ulutopia\">&#699;Ulutopia<\/span>, Hi!ag and <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Ag One that bring funds and recognition to the college. More importantly, these projects provide opportunities for students and community members to learn about culturally appropriate agriculture in a practical and engaging way.<\/p>\n<p>His ability to collaborate with other organizations has fostered long-lasting partnerships that have benefited all who have engaged with <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>Yamamoto\u2019s dedication embodies teaching, overseeing labs, mentoring students, collecting data, hosting international students and caring for indigenous plants on campus.
