Inouye, the namesake of the college, was the driving force behind the creation of the school.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Hale <span aria-label=\"Kihoihoi,\">K&#299;ho&#699;iho&#699;i,<\/span> the new home of the <a href=\"https:\/\/pharmacy.uhh.hawaii.edu\/\">Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy<\/a> (<abbr>DKICP<\/abbr>) at the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at Hilo, earned recognition at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.naiophawaii.org\/kukulu-hale-awards\/\">25th annual Kukulu Hale Awards<\/a>, which recognizes excellence in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii's\">Hawai&#699;i\u2019s<\/span> commercial real estate industry.<\/p>\n<p>The 45,000-square foot, two-story structure completed in December 2019, received an award from <abbr>NAIOP<\/abbr> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> in the public\/government project category. Hale <span aria-label=\"Kihoihoi\">Kiho&#699;iho&#699;i<\/span> houses lecture halls, pharmacy compounding laboratories, simulated pharmacy practice skills and dispensing labs, and innovative meeting rooms and spaces for the college.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;With its wonderful open design, Hale <span aria-label=\"Kihoihoi\">K&#299;ho&#699;iho&#699;i<\/span> is a very welcoming place that provides so many great spaces for learning, research and educational collaboration,&rdquo; said <strong>Miriam Mobley<\/strong>, <abbr>DKICP<\/abbr> interim dean. &ldquo;The structure also represents a significant commitment and investment by the State of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> in the university and the education of healthcare professionals.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2022\/05\/23\/life-sciences-building-award\/\">Learn about another Kukulu Hale Awards winner at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<blockquote><p>With its wonderful open design, Hale <span aria-label=\"Kihoihoi\">K&#299;ho&#699;iho&#699;i<\/span> is a very welcoming place that provides so many great spaces for learning, research and educational collaboration.<br \/>\n&#8212;Miriam Mobley<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In <span aria-label=\"olelo\">&#699;&#333;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> (Hawaiian language), <span aria-label=\"kihoihoi\">k&#299;ho&#699;iho&#699;i<\/span> refers to the quick restoration of land after a lava flow. According to Hawaiian naming protocol, everything coming from this new building, and the college it houses, is intended to promote restoration of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\u2019s\">Hawai&#699;i\u2019s<\/span> natural environment and its people.<\/p>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>-based firm, <abbr>WCIT<\/abbr> Architecture incorporated Hawaiian culture and themes into the building\u2019s modern design\u2014from the undulating roof line that represents the goddess Pele and her land-shaping lava<br \/>\nflows, to the interior floor-to-ceiling murals that depict the blending of traditional and contemporary healing practices.
