The video, featured in both <span aria-label=\"olelo\">&#699;&#333;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> (Hawaiian language) and translated into English is a visual expression of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ponopledge.com\/\">Pono Pledge<\/a>, a creed of respect asked of visitors to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Island, which is part of a campaign the Island of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Visitors Bureau launched in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The award-winning submission spotlights various members of the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo <span aria-label=\"ohana\">&#699;ohana<\/span> highlighting critical safety protocols related to everything from flash flooding, unpredictable ocean conditions to leaving lava rocks untouched.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/hilo-pono-pledge-telly-award-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Pono Pledge film still\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-160632\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/hilo-pono-pledge-telly-award-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/hilo-pono-pledge-telly-award-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/hilo-pono-pledge-telly-award.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The Pono Pledge is geared to bring awareness to both visitors and locals on the idea of what it means to be pono while here on the island, while emphasizing both safety precautions as well as respect for the environment and local culture,&rdquo; said <strong>Tracey Niimi<\/strong>, a student support specialist at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/pharmacy.uhh.hawaii.edu\/\">Daniel K. Inouye College of Pharmacy<\/a> who directed, filmed and edited the video.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Related <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> News article: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2021\/03\/02\/hula-bowl-halftime-director-uh-alum\/\">Hula Bowl halftime director is proud <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo alumnus, employee<\/a>, March 2, 2021<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Lito Arkangel<\/strong>, a Hawaiian studies and music lecturer at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo <a href=\"https:\/\/olelo.hawaii.edu\/en\/\">Ka Haka <span aria-label=\"Ula\">&#699;Ula<\/span> O <span aria-label=\"Keelikolani\">Ke&#699;elik&#333;lani<\/span> College of Hawaiian Language<\/a> devised the video concept that illuminates <span aria-label=\"olelo\">&#699;&#333;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"noeau\">no&#699;eau<\/span> or traditional Hawaiian proverbs specific to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> island. Arkangel helped weave the project together; from writing, translating, producing and coordinating key people and locations to film at. <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo alumnus <strong>Bruce Torres Fischer<\/strong>, an experienced producer and sound engineer, also wrote and translated for the project.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The impact on people that have viewed the video has been so good that after joking that Hawaiian Airlines should use the video, the airline is now actually playing the video for all incoming mainland and international flights,&rdquo; said Arkangel.<\/p>\n<h2>Good company<\/h2>\n<p>The video won the Online General-Public Interest\/Awareness category at the Telly Awards, a category that recognizes branded content promoting public interest issues and activism.
