These labs include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><abbr>SSFM<\/abbr> Structures Lab<\/li>\n<li>Bowers + Kubota Lecture Hall<\/li>\n<li>Jacobs Traffic and Transportation Lab<\/li>\n<li><abbr>YKE<\/abbr> Geotechnical Testing Lab<\/li>\n<li><abbr>GCA<\/abbr> Hawaii and <abbr>HC&#38;D<\/abbr> Concrete and Materials Lab<\/li>\n<li>Element Environmental and <abbr>AECOM<\/abbr> Environmental Lab<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure id=\"attachment_160890\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-160890\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/manoa-engineering-seismic-shake-table-solo-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"metal table\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-160890\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/manoa-engineering-seismic-shake-table-solo-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/manoa-engineering-seismic-shake-table-solo-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/manoa-engineering-seismic-shake-table-solo.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-160890\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wider view of the seismic shake table<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In total, more than 80 individual and corporate donors contributed to the campaign that spanned five months.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Championing this fundraising campaign was an honor and Jeff and I are so grateful for the many donors that made it a huge success,&rdquo; said Yamauchi, president of Element Environmental. &ldquo;Mahalo for helping us build a better future for our college, our faculty and our students.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The labs each created a plan to utilize their funds based on their individual needs, which vary from equipment purchases and repairs to software and facilities upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>In the Jacobs Traffic and Transportation Lab, Associate Professor <strong>Guohui Zhang<\/strong> has big plans. &ldquo;Funds will be used to purchase high-performance computer stations, traffic simulation software, and portable traffic data analysis devices to facilitate our research and teaching activities at various levels,&rdquo; said Zhang. &ldquo;They will help upgrade our transportation research infrastructure and rebuild our research capacity for our students, postdoctoral researchers and faculty to pursue excellence in scholarly work.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_160892\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-160892\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/manoa-engineering-traffic-lab-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"classroom with tables and chairs and computers\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-160892\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/manoa-engineering-traffic-lab-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/manoa-engineering-traffic-lab-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/manoa-engineering-traffic-lab.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-160892\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Funds will be used to purchase high-performance computer stations, traffic simulation software, and portable traffic data analysis devices in the Jacobs Traffic and Transportation Lab.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The <abbr>SSFM<\/abbr> Structures Lab will focus on purchasing testing equipment with a variety of educational uses. Professor <strong>Ian Robertson<\/strong> said, &ldquo;The generous donations to the <abbr>SSFM<\/abbr> Structures Laboratory have enabled us to purchase a five-foot square seismic shake table that will allow us to demonstrate dynamics of single and multi-degree of freedom structures during undergraduate and graduate classes on structural dynamics and seismic engineering.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Additional uses include open house demonstrations simulating various structural system responses to earthquakes and K&#8211;12 educational competitions to construct earthquake-resistant structures, as well as for faculty and graduate student research in the field.<\/p>\n<h2>Ongoing industry support<\/h2>\n<p><abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s College of Engineering is grateful for the strong support it has received from local industry over the years, creating a win-win situation for its students, the engineering community and the state.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;When practitioners from the engineering and construction industry make contributions to the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, they not only support the school.
