The new signs will be placed in front of 20 of the campus&#8217; main buildings starting July 2022 with the Life Sciences building and Bilger Hall. K&#257;naka <span aria-label=\"oiwi\">&#699;&#333;iwi<\/span> divided the islands into <span aria-label=\"ahupuaa\">ahupua&#699;a<\/span> (land division usually extending from the mountains to the sea) that were made up of subdivisions called <span aria-label=\"ili\">&#699;ili<\/span> <span aria-label=\"aina\">&#699;&#257;ina<\/span>, each with its own name and purpose. According to an 1882 historical map of M\u0101noa, multiple <span aria-label=\"ili\">&#699;ili<\/span> <span aria-label=\"aina\">&#699;&#257;ina<\/span> intersect on the M\u0101noa campus.<\/p>\n<p>The new signs will feature the building\u2019s name and the name of the <span aria-label=\"ili\">&#699;ili<\/span> <span aria-label=\"aina\">&#699;&#257;ina<\/span> the building is located in. Each sign will point toward different landmarks in and around M\u0101noa, such as the <span aria-label=\"Waahila\">Wa&#699;ahila<\/span> Ridge or <span aria-label=\"Leahi\">L&#275;&#699;ahi<\/span> (Diamond Head) on the coast. There will be a medallion at each sign with a <abbr>QR<\/abbr> code that will link to an interactive website with information about the specific location.<\/p>\n<p>The signage and wayfinding project is guided by the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa <a href=\"https:\/\/www.manoaframeworkfuture.info\">Framework for the Future<\/a>, a commitment that campus projects represent <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s core values as identified in the <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/wp\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/manoa-2025-strategic-plan.pdf\">M\u0101noa Strategic Plan<\/a>, and informed by regularly updated data.
