Hues of purple drape the Queen Liliʻuokalani<\/span> Center for Student Services (QLCSS<\/abbr>) building at University of Hawaiʻi<\/span> at M\u0101noa in honor of her majesty\u2019s 184th l\u0101 h\u0101nau (birthday) this Friday, September 2.<\/p>\n

Born at her family home in P\u016bowaina, Oʻahu<\/span>, Lydia Liliʻu<\/span> Loloku Walania Wewehi Kamakaʻeha<\/span> would go on to become the last monarch of the Kingdom of Hawaiʻi<\/span>. Her perseverance through some of Hawaiʻi<\/span>\u2019s most challenging chapters are as legendary as her mele (song) compositions such as Aloha ʻOe<\/span><\/em> and Queen\u2019s Jubilee<\/em>.<\/p>\n

东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Native Hawaiian Student Services<\/a> (NHSS<\/abbr>) and Student Equity, Excellence, and Diversity<\/a> (SEED<\/abbr>) invite the campus community to celebrate her legacy at QLCSS<\/abbr>, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. Traditional protocol and open house experiences for haum\u0101na (students) are planned. Organizers want students to get familiar with support services offered at QLCSS<\/abbr> to help support and enhance their college experiences. Students who visit participating offices will be entered to win Apple earbuds, 东精影业<\/abbr> Bookstore gift cards and more.<\/p>\n

Queen Liliʻuokalani<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The four-story building is named in honor of the Queen who is widely respected for being a strong motivating factor in the widespread emergence of Hawaiian culture and values.<\/p>\n

Festivities will also feature a lei presentation at ʻahu<\/span> o Kamakaʻeha<\/span>, an altar fronting the QLCSS<\/abbr> building. NHSS<\/abbr> will host free lei workshops at its QLCSS<\/abbr> 113 location on Thursday, September 1, 12–2:30 p.m. and Friday, September 2, 2–4:30 p.m. Participants will learn different lei making styles and techniques. All materials will be provided, first come first served.<\/p>\n

Free T-shirt screen printing will also be available on Friday 11 a.m.–1 p.m. Screen printing will feature an illustration of Queen Liliʻuokalani<\/span>. NHSS<\/abbr> asks participants to bring no more than two shirts per person.
