Nippon (the Japanese word for Japan) Day is an annual event featuring an array of workshops providing high school and college students an opportunity to learn about Japanese culture.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_170098\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-170098\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/manoa-nippon-day-games-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"People around tables in the Campus Center Ballroom\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-170098\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/manoa-nippon-day-games-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/manoa-nippon-day-games-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/manoa-nippon-day-games.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-170098\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Participants enjoy games and booth activities inside the Campus Center Ballroom<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On October 28, the celebration organized by the Japanese section of the <a href=\"https:\/\/eall.manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures<\/a> (<abbr>EALL<\/abbr>)in the <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/call\/\">College of Arts, Languages &#38; Letters<\/a> featured traditional and contemporary activities such as origami (paper folding), hanafuda (card game), calligraphy and tea ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The free event was held at the Campus Center Ballroom and the East-West Center\u2019s Jaku\u2019an Tea House. In this sense, we see the Nippon Culture Day as a precious opportunity for learning and community building,&rdquo; said <strong>Pier-Carlo Tommasi<\/strong>, a professor in the <abbr>EALL<\/abbr> department.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nflrc.hawaii.edu\/languageroadmap\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Language Roadmap Initiative<\/a>, which was launched by <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> to promote the development of a multilingual workforce, brought in Hawaiian Airlines and Outrigger to offer students career counseling and employment opportunities.
