It\u2019s the perfect game,&rdquo; proclaims entrepreneur <strong>Henk Rogers<\/strong> in 1988, in the movie <em>Tetris<\/em> about the addictive, ubiquitous video game. Apple TV&#43; said the film was, &ldquo;inspired by the true story of how [Rogers] risked his life to outsmart the <abbr>KGB<\/abbr> and turn <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/tv-pr\/originals\/tetris\/\"><em>Tetris<\/em><\/a> into a worldwide sensation.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/manoa-tetris-henk-rodgers-movie-poster.jpg\" alt=\"Tetris movie poster\" width=\"250\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-175172\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/manoa-tetris-henk-rodgers-movie-poster.jpg 200w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/manoa-tetris-henk-rodgers-movie-poster-87x130.jpg 87w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Rogers, who is portrayed by actor Taron Egerton in the movie, attended the <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> M\u0101noa<\/a> in the 1970s, and studied computer science. Today he is the president of the Tetris Company and the founder of companies and non-profit organizations focused on renewable energy, space exploration and ending the use of fossil fuels.<\/p>\n<p>He shared a condensed version of his Tetris story, when he addressed <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa graduates at their commencement in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It was a very exciting adventure that involved a long cast of characters, including\u2026the <abbr>KGB<\/abbr>, the Soviet Politburo and even Mikhail Gorbachev,&rdquo; Rogers recalled.<\/p>\n<p>Within days, Rogers was in Japan with the rights to Tetris for the new Nintendo Game Boy and the rest is history. According to Tetris.org, billions of Tetris games are played online every year, and more than 520 million units have been sold worldwide.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/offices\/bor\/honorary.php?person=rogers\">Rogers received an honorary doctorate<\/a> from <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa in 2015.
