Workshops on robotics, coding and renewable energy are planned. There will also be a variety of interactive exhibits and displays, as well as live demonstrations and talks from experts in various fields.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;This year&#8217;s Onizuka Day of Exploration at <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> celebrates the fusion of scouting skills, STEM activities and a deep appreciation for Hawaiian culture, resulting in an event that truly honors the spirit of exploration and the unique connection to the land that the Hawaiian people cherish,&rdquo; said Alim Shabazz, the event chairperson.<\/p>\n<h2>Niu (coconuts) and &#699;ulu (breadfruit)<\/h2>\n<p><abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> faculty and staff have undertaken an initiative dedicated to food security and cultural rejuvenation through identifying and sharing the many functions of niu and &#699;ulu. The Uluniu Project represents a larger cultural agroforestry movement dedicated to food security and cultural rejuvenation as part of a commitment to &#699;ike kupuna (elder wisdom) and &#699;ike &#699;\u0101ina (learning from land).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_175770\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-175770\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/west-oahu-onizuka-day2-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Rows of coconuts\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-175770\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/west-oahu-onizuka-day2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/west-oahu-onizuka-day2-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/west-oahu-onizuka-day2.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-175770\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Uluniu Project<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At the Uluniu Project booth, attendees can learn from Indigenous knowledge-keeper <strong>Indrajit Gunasekara<\/strong> from Southern Sri Lanka, about the many functions of the niu tree. What this means is we can keep learning from the specificity of place and bring those lessons into larger systems that will ultimately prioritize how best to care for these places to insure our survival. Our very future depends on the choices we make now. The Boy Scouts of America can play an important role in how we will enter this next phase of science education with the inclusion of ancient ways of knowledge production through natural world understanding.
