Their hard work garnered them scholarships and awards to further pursue their passions and achieve their goals.<\/p>\n<p>For more than 100 years, <abbr>PTK<\/abbr> has helped millions of high-achieving community college students reach their full potential. <abbr>PTK<\/abbr> gives students opportunities to develop professional and leadership skills, earn scholarships, explore career paths&#8212;and make their worlds a lot bigger.<\/p>\n<h2>Tessah Carreira<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_177157\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-177157\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-carreira.jpg\" alt=\"Tessah Carreira\" width=\"250\" height=\"350\" class=\"size-full wp-image-177157\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-carreira.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-carreira-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-carreira-93x130.jpg 93w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-177157\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tessah Carreira<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tessah Carreira, has been named a 2023 Coca-Cola New Century Transfer Pathway Scholar and will receive a $2,250 scholarship. Only one scholar is selected from each state. Out of more than 2,400 applications received for the All-<abbr title=\"United States of America\">USA<\/abbr> Academic Team competition, Carreira was the top scoring student from <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Carreira is a recent <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaii.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Community College<\/a> liberal arts and human services graduate and member of the Alpha Psi Epsilon Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society. She is currently pursuing her bachelor&#8217;s degree in public administration from <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>In the future, she hopes to open up her own counseling office for family and children going through the court system. She enjoys spending time with her family and taking them on adventures.<\/p>\n<h2><span aria-label=\"Kaimipono\">Ka&#699;imipono<\/span> Drumright<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_177158\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-177158\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-drumright.jpg\" alt=\"Kaimipono Drumright\" width=\"250\" height=\"350\" class=\"size-full wp-image-177158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-drumright.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-drumright-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-drumright-93x130.jpg 93w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-177158\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span aria-label=\"Kaimipono\">Ka&#699;imipono<\/span> Drumright<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><span aria-label=\"Kaimipono\">Ka&#699;imipono<\/span> Drumright from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.honolulu.hawaii.edu\/\">Honolulu Community College<\/a> was named the 2023 Coca-Cola New Century Workforce Scholar. Drumright has earned a $1,250 scholarship from <abbr>PTK<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>Born and raised in Winters, California, Drumright moved to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> following his high school graduation in 2014 to pursue a bachelor\u2019s degree in exercise science at Brigham Young University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>. After completing his bachelor&#8217;s, Drumright began his journey toward becoming a firefighter in the Honolulu Fire Department. It was on that journey that he learned about the Honolulu <abbr>CC<\/abbr> fire science program.<\/p>\n<p>With the benefits and training of this program, Drumright is now in the employment process with the Honolulu Fire Department. He could not have made it this far without the helping hands and pilina (relationship, connection) of his Honolulu <abbr title=\"Community College\">CC<\/abbr> <span aria-label=\"ohana\">&#699;ohana<\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2>Samantha Pinera<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_177159\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-177159\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-pinera.jpg\" alt=\"Samantha Pinera\" width=\"250\" height=\"350\" class=\"size-full wp-image-177159\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-pinera.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-pinera-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-pinera-93x130.jpg 93w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-177159\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Samantha Pinera<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Samantha Pinera from <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> earned a $1,000 Pacific Region Transfer scholarship. Pinera plans to major in biology and hopes to one day become a pediatrician. She has many areas of interest: molecular cell biology, immunology and virology and ethnobotany. She especially has an interest in medicinal plants and possible applications in treating and caring for new generations. She plans to transfer to <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa.<\/p>\n<p>Pinera previously served as the vice president of public relations for her PTK chapter. She helped with membership meetings and planning events, and was primarily responsible for the content and distribution of the chapter\u2019s monthly newsletter.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, she participated in academic research on the project, &ldquo;Discover the Microbes Within: The Wolbachia Project.&rdquo; Pinera hopes to provide beneficial data for the Wolbachia project to produce more information to advance gene editing and technology.<\/p>\n<h2>Maria Pou<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_177156\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-177156\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-pou.jpg\" alt=\"Maria Pou\" width=\"250\" height=\"350\" class=\"size-full wp-image-177156\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-pou.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-pou-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/system-ptk-2023-pou-93x130.jpg 93w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-177156\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Maria Pou<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Maria Pou from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kapiolani.hawaii.edu\/\"><span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College<\/a> earned a $1,000 Pacific Region Transfer Scholarship and plans to transfer to <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span> to major in English. She is a staff writer at the student newspaper and recently interned as a communications and branding assistant at International Justice Mission, a global nonprofit.<\/p>\n<p>Her recommender wrote, &ldquo;Maria has the perseverance to achieve results. She has labored hard throughout her undergraduate studies, excelling in anything she puts her mind towards.
