In September, the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> State Foundation on Culture and the Arts (<abbr>SFCA<\/abbr>) purchased an oil painting that depicts the controversial sport of sabong or cockfighting, and sculptures made out of glass and nylon-laced ceramic for a public art collection that is displayed in hundreds of state government sites across <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>, such as schools, libraries and Capitol Modern (formerly <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> State Art Museum).<\/p>\n<p>Artists featured in the <abbr>SFCA<\/abbr> Art in Public Places Collection include <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa alumni Eduardo Joaquin (<abbr title=\"bachelor of fine arts\">BFA<\/abbr>, <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa art and art history and <abbr title=\"associate in arts\">AA<\/abbr>, <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> Community College), Jenna Macy (<abbr title=\"master of fine arts\">MFA<\/abbr>, <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa art and art history) and student Enrico Battan (<abbr>MFA<\/abbr>, <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa art and art history).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_185667\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-185667\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/manoa-art-uh-art-state-purchased-macy.jpg\" alt=\"ceramic heliconia\" width=\"250\" height=\"350\" class=\"size-full wp-image-185667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/manoa-art-uh-art-state-purchased-macy.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/manoa-art-uh-art-state-purchased-macy-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/manoa-art-uh-art-state-purchased-macy-93x130.jpg 93w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-185667\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa art alumna Jenna Macy, <em>Heliconia Harness<\/em>, ceramic, nylon rope flocking<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Battan is on track to graduate this fall and aspires to show his creations at contemporary galleries around the world. His recently purchased sculpture, &lsquo;Collapse,&rsquo; is made from recycled tinted industrial window glass and was cooked in a kiln at more than 1,300 degrees.
