  {"id":186168,"date":"2023-11-01T08:15:02","date_gmt":"2023-11-01T18:15:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/?p=186168"},"modified":"2023-10-31T15:26:39","modified_gmt":"2023-11-01T01:26:39","slug":"pumpkin-carving-architecture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2023\/11\/01\/pumpkin-carving-architecture\/","title":{"rendered":"Pumpkin carving, costumes bring Halloween spirit to School of Architecture"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Reading time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/manoa-architecture-halloween-equisse.jpg\" alt=\"people holding pumpkins\" width=\"676\" height=\"381\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-186158\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/manoa-architecture-halloween-equisse.jpg 676w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/manoa-architecture-halloween-equisse-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/manoa-architecture-halloween-equisse-130x73.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 676px) 100vw, 676px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Pumpkin carving, a costume contest and spontaneous karaoke were featured in this year\u2019s University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at M&#257;noa <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arch.hawaii.edu\/\">School of Architecture<\/a>\u2019s Pumpkin Equisse event, which gathered approximately 80 people on October 27.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The highlight of the event was the live music that came through to provide energy for the pumpkin carvers,&rdquo; said Austin Jared Torralba, a second year graduate student in architecture and American Institute of Architecture Students (<abbr>AIAS<\/abbr>) president. &ldquo;The appropriately themed tunes eventually led into a karaoke scene where people could sing along on the mic while the band played.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/manoa-architecture-halloween-equisse-2-214x300.jpg\" alt=\"two people dressed as soccer players\" width=\"214\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-186156\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/manoa-architecture-halloween-equisse-2-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/manoa-architecture-halloween-equisse-2-93x130.jpg 93w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/manoa-architecture-halloween-equisse-2.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 214px) 100vw, 214px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><abbr>AIAS<\/abbr> hosted the event to give students an opportunity to participate in Halloween festivities such as a pumpkin carving contest and a costume contest with free food and drinks. The costume contest\u2019s best dressed handmade costume was chosen by audience applause. The pumpkin carving contest ended with a public silent vote in three categories: best use of lighting, best manipulation of medium and most creative.
