In addition, when compared to non-<abbr>IBC<\/abbr> cases, <abbr>IBC<\/abbr> represented a significant 9% among Pacific Islanders and 4.7% among Native Hawaiians.<\/p>\n<p>Because of this, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uhcancercenter.org\">University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span> Cancer Center<\/a> is joining forces with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mdanderson.org\/research\/departments-labs-institutes\/programs-centers\/inflammatory-breast-cancer-research-program.html\">Morgan Welch <abbr>IBC<\/abbr> Research Program and Clinic at <abbr>MD<\/abbr> Anderson\u2019s <abbr>IBC<\/abbr> Connect<\/a>. <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Cancer Center researchers Ashley Marumoto, practicing at The Queen\u2019s Medical Center, Jami Fukui, practicing at <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span> Pacific Health, and Naoto Ueno, who practices at <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span> Pacific Health and Queen\u2019s Medical Center, will lead efforts to expand the international network of 16 organizations to <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe collaboration between <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Cancer Center, The Queen&#8217;s Medical Center and <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span> Pacific Health to carry out this endeavor will bolster the level of care for the entire state of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span> and allow patients access to the highest level of care locally,\u201d said Marumoto.<\/p>\n<h2>Accessing high-quality, reliable care<\/h2>\n<p>This network strives to promote standardized patient care, facilitate extensive research and encourage effective collaboration. These efforts are intended to ensure that people struggling with <abbr>IBC<\/abbr> can access reliable, high-quality care regardless of where they live.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-186358\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/manoa-cancer-center-ueno-patient-interact-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"patient and doctor interacting\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/manoa-cancer-center-ueno-patient-interact-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/manoa-cancer-center-ueno-patient-interact-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/manoa-cancer-center-ueno-patient-interact.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<abbr>IBC<\/abbr> Connect will provide an opportunity to gain a greater understanding of inflammatory breast cancer and how we can continue to tailor both medical and surgical therapies to this uniquely aggressive subtype of breast cancer,\u201d said Marumoto. \u201cIn participating, we will also build an expert team here in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai\u02bbi<\/span> to care for our patients locally and to create a network nationally as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><abbr>IBC<\/abbr> gets its name from symptoms appearing swollen and red, or inflamed, and is commonly diagnosed at younger ages, frequently occurring in women under 40. <abbr>IBC<\/abbr> can present different symptoms than other types of breast cancer, such as rapid change in breast size or shape, redness or rash on the breast or nipple, pain or tenderness in the breast, nipple retraction or discharge, and enlarged lymph nodes under the arm or collarbone.<\/p>\n<p>Recent studies have demonstrated that with proper and timely treatment, the five-year survival rate for stage <abbr title=\"roman numeral 3\">III<\/abbr> patients nears 70% and from 50% to 55% for stage <abbr title=\"roman numeral 4\">IV<\/abbr>patients.
