Launched this spring from the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/hawaii.edu\/cpis\/\">Center for Pacific Islands Studies<\/a> (<abbr>CPIS<\/abbr>), the debut episode of <a href=\"https:\/\/rss.com\/podcasts\/oceaniacurrents\/\"><em>Oceania Currents<\/em><\/a>, aired on February 27 and attracted hundreds of listeners.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_193434\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-193434\" style=\"width: 250px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/manoa-cpis-oceania-logo.jpg\" alt=\"Illustration of a radio microphone with water\" width=\"250\" height=\"250\" class=\"size-full wp-image-193434\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/manoa-cpis-oceania-logo.jpg 250w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/manoa-cpis-oceania-logo-130x130.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-193434\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Political science student Randizia Crisostomo designed the podcast logo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The new podcast is recorded in cutting-edge facilities at <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/clt.manoa.hawaii.edu\/\">Center for Language &#38; Technology<\/a> and hosted by <abbr>CPIS<\/abbr> Associate Professor Tarcisius &ldquo;Tara&rdquo; Kabutaulaka and Kenji Cataldo, a graduate assistant at <abbr>CPIS<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I hope listeners will learn more about Oceania, Pacific Island cultures, about the issues that are important to Pacific Islanders, and the challenges and opportunities they face in the 21st century,&rdquo; said Kabutaulaka. &ldquo;It is also about understanding and learning from the past in order to &lsquo;way find&rsquo; into the future.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The premiere episode featured interviews with past and present <abbr>CPIS<\/abbr> faculty, including <abbr>CPIS<\/abbr> Director Alexander Mawyer, Emeritus Professor Terence Wesley-Smith and Professor Katerina Teaiwa, a <abbr>CPIS<\/abbr> alumna now teaching at the Australian National University. A new episode posts every other Tuesday.
