The delegation was led by <abbr>NEH<\/abbr> Chair Shelly C. Lowe (Navajo), <abbr>NEH<\/abbr> Senior Deputy Chair Anthony Mitchell and <abbr>NEH<\/abbr> Chief of Staff Kelsey Coates.<\/p>\n<p>The visit on April 25 began with a meeting with <a href=\"https:\/\/manoa.hawaii.edu\/call\/\">College of Arts, Languages &#38; Letters<\/a> Dean Peter Arnade to discuss <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s strength in humanities, highlight the work of <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s faculty and students, and learn about <abbr>NEH<\/abbr>\u2019s mission and strategic goals. Arnade previously received <abbr>NEH<\/abbr> funding, which helped change the course of his career.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/manoa-research-neh-visit-uh-manoa-library-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"people looking at books in a library\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-199590\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/manoa-research-neh-visit-uh-manoa-library-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/manoa-research-neh-visit-uh-manoa-library-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/06\/manoa-research-neh-visit-uh-manoa-library.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;The visit from <abbr>NEH<\/abbr> Chair Lowe underscored the breadth of talent among our faculty in the<br \/>\nHumanities and our unique scholarly attributes,&rdquo; Arnade said. &ldquo;It placed a spotlight on the excellence of our faculty\u2019s research and opened the door to more <abbr>NEH<\/abbr> funding opportunities.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The <abbr>NEH<\/abbr> delegation also met with <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa faculty who received <abbr>NEH<\/abbr> funding, and learned about the lasting impact of their projects.<\/p>\n<p>They toured the <a href=\"https:\/\/guides.library.manoa.hawaii.edu\/hawaiianpacific\">Hawaiian and Pacific collections<\/a>, housed in <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s Hamilton Library. The delegation conducted a faculty forum for <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> faculty, staff and students, and representatives from the Hawaii Council for the Humanities. They were treated to a poetry reading by Associate Professor Brandy N\u0101lani McDougall, who is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2023\/01\/10\/uh-manoa-professor-hawaii-state-poet-laureate\/\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> state poet laureate<\/a>. Lowe then showcased <abbr>NEH<\/abbr>\u2019s work to increase access to the humanities for every American across the nation.
