Kane was presented with the honor by <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> President David Lassner and <abbr>BOR<\/abbr> Chair Gabriel Lee at the <abbr>BOR<\/abbr> July 18 meeting. The second thing I felt was I&#8217;m getting credit for the work of a lot of people, and these are the folks that hold up the sky with me,&rdquo; said Kane after the <abbr>BOR<\/abbr> presentation. &ldquo;Without the small but mighty team at <abbr>OFDAS<\/abbr>, the work could have never been accomplished. Then there&#8217;s the faculty around campus who come in and contribute to the programs for other faculty and the other staff members and the administrators that support what we do.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Kane, who has worked at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> as a faculty specialist for more than three decades, has served as <abbr>OFDAS<\/abbr> director since 2011. In that role, she oversaw a teaching assistants (<abbr>TA<\/abbr>) professional development program and two faculty development programs&#8212;the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ofdas.hawaii.edu\/about\/aboutcte\/\">Center for Teaching Excellence<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ofdas.hawaii.edu\/about\/aboutfmp\/\">Faculty Mentoring Program<\/a>. She was in charge of New Faculty Orientations, <abbr>TA<\/abbr> Trainings, the M\u0101noa Excellence in Teaching awards, and the Promotion and Tenure Dossier Library.<\/p>\n<h2>Indelible mark on <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr><\/h2>\n<p>&ldquo;We believe you would be hard-pressed to find anyone on the M\u0101noa campus who doesn\u2019t personally know Dr. Kane, or her work, or hasn\u2019t benefited from the many programs and activities she has spearheaded and supported,&rdquo; stated the <abbr>OFDAS<\/abbr> staff in the award nomination. &ldquo;Dr. Kane\u2019s work will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on teaching and learning at the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Kane also spearheaded the development of several innovative classroom spaces at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa including the award winning <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2016\/12\/16\/sakamaki-hall-renovation-honored-for-innovation\/\">Sakamaki Innovation Zone<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2012\/09\/24\/new-classroom-and-teaching-technique-tested-at-uh-manoa\/\">Webster Collaborative Classroom<\/a> and the recently completed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2024\/04\/23\/dean-hall-lab-elevates-classes\/\">Dean Hall Culture Lab<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Kathie goes above and beyond her regular work duties by bettering the academic environment for faculty and students, not only at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa but throughout the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> System as a whole,&rdquo; said Lassner during the presentation. &ldquo;Kathie is also praised for her invaluable guidance and mentorship to both new and experienced faculty members.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Kane earned bachelor and masters degrees and a PhD in political science from <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa in 1994 and has taught in political science and women\u2019s studies as an affiliate faculty.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;You know, I was an undergrad and graduate student here, too, so I&#8217;ve been coming to <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> for a long time,&rdquo; said Kane, who is retiring on August 1, 2024. &ldquo;It&#8217;s been a significant part of my life as an adult, and it&#8217;s strange to think I&#8217;ll no longer continue to return to campus on a daily basis, so I&#8217;m adjusting to that slowly.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The Willard Wilson Award for Distinguished Service is named in honor of long-time <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> administrator and secretary to the Board of Regents, Willard Wilson, who set a standard for service to the university during his 40-year career.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kathie Kane, director for the Office of Faculty Development and Academic Support at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa was honored for her service to the university.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":16,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[29],"tags":[598,698,9,947,1096],"class_list":["post-200748","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-people","tag-faculty-recognition","tag-staff-recognition","tag-uh-manoa","tag-uh-system","tag-willard-wilson-award","entry","has-media"],"aioseo_notices":[],"jetpack_featured_media_url":"","_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/200748","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/16"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=200748"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/200748\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":200765,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/200748\/revisions\/200765"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=200748"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=200748"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=200748"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
