Sanchez said. &ldquo;My vision for <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> is that the island residents have what they need from our college to thrive and stay on the island.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/kauai-sanchez-margaret-1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Margaret Sanchez\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-202580\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/kauai-sanchez-margaret-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/kauai-sanchez-margaret-1-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/kauai-sanchez-margaret-1.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Her plans include launching a scholarship program, similar to Windward <abbr>CC<\/abbr>\u2019s <span aria-label=\"Hoolei\">Ho&#699;olei<\/span> Scholarship, which covers the first year of tuition for public and charter school graduates from that area.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;We are looking at what wraparound scaffolded supports are needed so that students can thrive\u2014can get an education that allows them to earn enough money to have a house and a family on this island,&rdquo; she said. &ldquo;That&#8217;s really the vision, and I see the college as being the vehicle to move island residents to that goal.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/kauai-sanchez-margaret-4.jpg\" alt=\"Margaret Sanchez in cap and gown behind a podium\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-202583\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/kauai-sanchez-margaret-4.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/kauai-sanchez-margaret-4-130x130.jpg 130w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Four priorities<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>To get there means focusing on four priorities:<\/li>\n<li>securing a path forward for student, faculty and staff housing;<\/li>\n<li>developing programs for the 150-acre <span aria-label=\"Lihue\">L&#299;hu&#699;e<\/span> campus that serve the students and honor the history of <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span>;<\/li>\n<li>ensuring connection with industry and developing students so that they become part of the solution to the islands\u2019 problems;<\/li>\n<li>making sure the faculty, students and staff have the supports they need in an expensive county and state.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;I think success would be having the college recognized by our island residents as the place to go for what they need for skill building and for education,&rdquo;
