We don\u2019t study these things just as grievance; we study these things as an understanding of how we should see the future.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>First week events<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_202790\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-202790\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/manoa-hawaiian-history-month-2024-2-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"women dancing hula\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-202790\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/manoa-hawaiian-history-month-2024-2-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/manoa-hawaiian-history-month-2024-2-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/manoa-hawaiian-history-month-2024-2.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-202790\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">H&#257;lau to honor the Queen&#8217;s musical legacy at E&#333; e <span aria-label=\"Liliu\">Lili&#699;u<\/span> concert.<br \/><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The celebrations will kick off on September 1 with the E&#333; e <span aria-label=\"Liliu\">Lili&#699;u<\/span> concert at <span aria-label=\"Kawaiahao\">Kawaiaha&#699;o<\/span> Church, a musical tribute to Queen <span aria-label=\"Liliuokalani\">Lili&#699;uokalani<\/span>. The event will showcase her compositions, performed by h&#257;lau hula (hula schools) and some of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\u2019s\">Hawai&#699;i\u2019s<\/span> leading choirs. Both live and online audiences are encouraged to sing along to the mele (songs) in a collective celebration of the Queen\u2019s life and contributions.<\/p>\n<p>On September 2, Queen <span aria-label=\"Liliuokalani\">Lili&#699;uokalani<\/span>\u2019s 186th birthday will be commemorated with a memory walk from St. Andrews to <span aria-label=\"Iolani\">&#699;Iolani<\/span> Palace. These panels will explore the U.S.\u2019s imperial legacy in Oceania, focusing on events in 1898 and their enduring effects on the lands and people of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>.
