Burns School of Medicine (JABSOM) that will train physicians to treat liver diseases, including cancer, in the islands.<\/li>\n<li>$3.5 million to <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa from the Barbara Barnard Smith Foundation to fund the music department\u2019s first-ever endowed chair for its innovative ethnomusicology program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&ldquo;It is incredible to see the broad support for <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr>, and the cumulative impact of each gift, growing stronger each year, especially following the launch of our historic $1 billion campaign,&rdquo; said Tim Dolan, vice president of advancement at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> and <abbr>CEO<\/abbr> of <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Foundation. &ldquo;We are forever grateful for our alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends who believe in the mission of supporting our state university system.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>The number of gifts rose 3.6% to 24,560, with many of those made by individuals and families in memory of loved ones, including faculty members or their spouses.<\/p>\n<p>Alumni and other individuals also committed substantial gifts to <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> for scholarships, faculty, research, facilities and programming for students, including a $2 million gift to create full-ride scholarships for nursing students at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Maui College and a scholarship for students enrolled in the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Shidler College of Business master in accounting program, with a preference for students who identify as <abbr>LGBTQ+<\/abbr>.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Another year of growing and substantial support reinforces the validity of the audacious $1 billion fundraising goal we embraced for public higher education in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>,&rdquo; said <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> President David Lassner. &ldquo;It\u2019s an endorsement in our students, faculty and researchers and the critical role for <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> in building a better future for everyone in the islands. It is the second endowed scholarship with a preference for <abbr>LGBTQ+<\/abbr> students at any <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> campus and the first for <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa.<\/li>\n<li>$100,000 from the <abbr>HPM<\/abbr> Foundation <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/hpm-foundation-pledges-100k-college-scholarships-uh-system-students-statewide\">to provide college scholarships<\/a> for students enrolled at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> campuses across the state.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Research That Matters<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>$3.76 million from John C. Burns School of Medicine that will train physicians to treat liver diseases, including cancer, in the islands.<\/li>\n<li>$1 million from <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> alumnus and philanthropist businessman Jay H. Shidler to the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Cancer Center to start the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/shidler-gives-1m-launch-uh-cancer-center-directors-innovation-fund\">Director\u2019s Innovation Fund<\/a>, to allow <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Cancer Center Director Naoto T. Ueno to advance his vision for the lifesaving research being done at the center. Shidler also gave the Cancer Center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/shidler-gives-100000-uh-cancer-center-community-outreach\">$100,000 to help the center increase public awareness<\/a> of its work as it moves to its next phase as an advanced research and patient care facility with the opening next year of its Early Phase Clinical Research Center.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Kuleana to Native Hawaiians &#38; <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>$700,000 from <span aria-label=\"Alakaina\">Alaka&#699;ina<\/span> Foundation for programs and scholarships that support Native Hawaiian students at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Community Colleges, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kauai.hawaii.edu\/cogs\">Cognition Learning Center<\/a> at <span aria-label=\"Kauai\">Kaua&#699;i<\/span> Community College.<\/li>\n<li>$650,000 from <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Pacific Foundation to support the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa Thompson School of Social Work &#38; Public Health, the Native Hawaiian Center of Excellence Support Endowment at JABSOM, I Hoa Na <span aria-label=\"Moolelo\">Mo&#699;olelo<\/span> at the <span aria-label=\"Hawaiinuiakea\">Hawai&#699;inui&#257;kea<\/span> School of Hawaiian Knowledge and the <span aria-label=\"Hoopuliko\">Ho&#699;opuliko<\/span> Kumu Hou Education Pathway program at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>.<\/li>\n<li>$160,000 from Alaka\u02bbina Foundation and <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Pacific Foundation for the Kauka Noa Emmett Auwae Aluli Memorial Scholarship at the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa John A. Burns School of Medicine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Sustainability &#38; Conservation<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>$540,000 from <span aria-label=\"Alakaina\">Alaka&#699;ina<\/span> Foundation to create partnerships for <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> West <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>, Leeward Community College and Windward Community College with community groups <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/alakaina-foundation-funds-uh-programs-partnerships-sustainability\">to promote sustainability<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>$100,000 from the Edmund C. Olson Trust 2 to the University of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> at Hilo\u2019s College of Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resource Management for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/edmund-c-olson-trust-2-funds-scholarships-uh-hilo-ag-forestry-students\">Edmund C. Olson Trust 2 Scholarship<\/a>, with a preference for students from the <span aria-label=\"Kau\">Ka&#699;&#363;<\/span> District on <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Island.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Innovation &#38; Entrepreneurship<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>$5 million from Walter Dods, Jr. for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/walter-dods-jr-makes-5m-donation-rise-center\">Residences for Innovative Student Entrepreneurs<\/a> at <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa, which was renamed the Walter Dods, Jr. RISE Center in his honor.<\/li>\n<li>$3.5 million to <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa from the Barbara Barnard Smith Foundation to fund the music department\u2019s first-ever endowed chair. The newly established <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/record-donation-35m-made-uh-manoa-music-department\">Professor Barbara Barnard Smith Endowed Chair<\/a> supports the university\u2019s desire and commitment to revitalize its innovative ethnomusicology program, which educates students in world music with a special focus on Asia and the Pacific.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Building <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>\u2019s Workforce<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>$5 million from Marc and Lynne Benioff in support of the state\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/helping-hundreds-healthcare-professionals-stay-hawaii\"><span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Healthcare Education Loan Repayment Program<\/a> (HELP) to help retain health professionals on <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Island.<\/li>\n<li>$2 million gift from the Gilbert and Aileen Chuck Foundation to create the Kam Scholars Program for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/news\/2m-gift-uh-maui-college-creates-full-scholarships-nursing-students\"><abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Maui College nursing program<\/a>, full scholarships for the top-ranked students in the associate of science in nursing program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Engaging Our Community<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>$1.1 million from Rie Wong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uhfoundation.org\/impact\/students\/1m-gift-uh-athletics-supports-hawaii-student-athletes-any-sport\">to establish the Edwin &#38; Rie Wong Endowment Fund<\/a> to provide academic and student support for <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa student-athletes who are graduates of <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> high schools.
