I met so many amazing people,&rdquo; said Strand. &ldquo;I loved my time there, being on a bike and hanging out at the campus center. I just have nothing but good memories.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>She started <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hapahawaiiansalts.com\/\">Hapa Hawaiian Salts<\/a> as a way to fundraise for her children\u2019s school activities. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, she decided to pursue the business full-time. Today, her hand-crafted, locally sourced seasoned sea salts are sold in more than 40 retail stores across <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>, California and Washington.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;It&#8217;s been a great learning experience, really challenging at times. But, I think when you have passion for something, it usually comes through in your work and your product,&rdquo; said Strand.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/manoa-athletics-strand-l-2.jpg\" alt=\"people playing volleyball\" width=\"200\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-205554\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/manoa-athletics-strand-l-2.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/manoa-athletics-strand-l-2-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/manoa-athletics-strand-l-2-98x130.jpg 98w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This summer, her son Micah <span aria-label=\"Maa\">Ma&#699;a<\/span> was a member of the United States Men\u2019s Volleyball team at the Paris Olympics. Strand and the rest of the family closely followed every match, celebrating as they secured the bronze medal by defeating Poland in a four-set thriller.<\/p>\n<p>Through the decades, Strand has stayed connected to Hawai\u2018i athletics.
