The Society of Automotive Engineers demonstrated practical applications of engineering principles through automotive design projects.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;I think engineering is really cool, like it all seems so fun to do but also so interesting to learn about,&rdquo; said Lillyana Pangan, a King Intermediate 7th grader. &ldquo;I really thought that some of the machines they use were awesome and I kinda want to become an engineer.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/manoa-engineering-king-intermediate-visit-catapult-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"people launching a ping pong ball with a tiny spoon\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-206836\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/manoa-engineering-king-intermediate-visit-catapult-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/manoa-engineering-king-intermediate-visit-catapult-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/11\/manoa-engineering-king-intermediate-visit-catapult.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Gabrielle Lestino, a King Intermediate 8th grader added, &ldquo;I&#8217;m excited because I get to learn about these new things here about building and science.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Students from <abbr title=\"东精影业\">东精影业<\/abbr> M\u0101noa\u2019s College of Engineering also traveled to King Intermediate in October to meet with the students. It was one of more than a dozen events with schools just in the fall 2024 semester, which included visits with Kaimuk\u012b Middle, Leilehua High, Kaiser High, Kanoelani Elementary, Liholiho Elementary, Kailua High, Radford High and Waipahu Intermediate.<\/p>\n<p>These events are part of the College of Engineering&#8217;s ongoing efforts to increase <abbr>STEM<\/abbr> engagement among students from underrepresented backgrounds in <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>.
