Her performance connected the audience to cherished places like <span aria-label=\"Oahu\">O&#699;ahu<\/span>, <span aria-label=\"Piihonua\">Pi&#699;ihonua<\/span> within Hilo\u2019s uplands and <span aria-label=\"Kalamaula\">Kalama&#699;ula<\/span> on <span aria-label=\"Molokai\">Moloka&#699;i<\/span>, where her roots lie.<\/p>\n<h2>Beyond the fires<\/h2>\n<p>A panel on Lahaina\u2019s recovery brought together experts to discuss the devastating August 2023 wildfires and paths forward. Community leader Kekai Keahi, <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> law professor Kapua Sproat, and ecosystem fire specialist Clay Trauernicht explored how climate change heightens wildfire risks and how ancestral knowledge can inform Lahaina\u2019s rebuilding.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;He <span aria-label=\"alii\">ali&#699;i<\/span> ka <span aria-label=\"aina\">&#699;&#257;ina<\/span>, he kauw\u0101 ke kanaka&#8212;the land is the chief, we are the stewards,&rdquo; Beamer emphasized. &ldquo;A great example is restoration of streams,&rdquo; Beamer said. &ldquo;When we restore streams we restore the life and ecosystems of that stream system. But it also re-greens the <span aria-label=\"aina\">&#699;&#257;ina<\/span>, so places in like Lahaina, when the streams were flowing, when Lahaina was the so-called \u2018Venice of the Pacific,\u2019 wildfires wouldn\u2019t steep through.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<h2>Healing in <span aria-label=\"Haena\">H&#257;&#699;ena<\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Another panel highlighted resilience in <span aria-label=\"Kauai\u2019s\">Kaua&#699;i\u2019s<\/span> north shore community of <span aria-label=\"Haena\">H&#257;&#699;ena<\/span> after catastrophic flooding in 2018.
