The tour will also include a visit to <span aria-label=\"Nawahiokalaniopuu\">N&#257;wah&#299;okalani&#699;&#333;pu&#699;u<\/span>, the largest Indigenous language medium school in the U.S., where students receive a full preschool-through-12th-grade education entirely in <span aria-label=\"olelo\">&#699;&#333;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>. Additionally, attendees will visit the <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo <a href=\"https:\/\/imiloahawaii.org\/\"><span aria-label=\"Imiloa\">&#699;Imiloa<\/span> Astronomy Center<\/a>, which blends Indigenous knowledge and modern science.<\/p>\n<h2>Preserving Indigenous languages<\/h2>\n<p>Panel discussions will focus on supporting Hawaiian-speaking communities and connecting with the Native Hawaiian diaspora. Discussions will also highlight how <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo prepares students to navigate life in communities where Indigenous languages remain minority languages in their own lands, similar to <span aria-label=\"olelo\">&#699;&#333;lelo<\/span> <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span>. According to <abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo linguists, Hawaiian-speaking communities in Hilo share many similarities with diaspora communities in large cities, where families often have mixed racial and linguistic identities in an increasingly globalized world.<\/p>\n<h2>Indigenous language revitalization<\/h2>\n<p>In 2023, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2023\/10\/18\/uh-hilo-to-lead-n-nalrc\/\"><abbr>东精影业<\/abbr> Hilo received a $6.6 million grant<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.gov\/\">U.S. Department of Education<\/a> to establish a National Native American Language Resource Center.
