Their sweet offerings included scones, cheesecake brownies, apple turnovers, snickerdoodles and chocolate croissants.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214574\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-214574\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/kapiolani-wccc-kids-day-1-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"culinary staff and graduates\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-214574\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/kapiolani-wccc-kids-day-1-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/kapiolani-wccc-kids-day-1-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/kapiolani-wccc-kids-day-1.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-214574\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chef Shinsato and Chef Wetter, back, Chef Say, in yellow, culinary graduate and volunteer.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&ldquo;The women were so excited and eager to use their newly learned skills at this event,&rdquo; said Shinsato. &ldquo;Inspiring and showing future culinary students that there is a purpose behind learning and moving forward in life was a major factor in participating in this event.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<p>Hosted by <abbr>WCCC<\/abbr> and Wellspring Covenant Church, the Easter-themed Kids\u2019 Day welcomed 10 mothers, 19 children, and 11 caregivers to the Maunawili Cottage courtyard for crafts, games, and family time. Mothers and children decorated eggs and bunny-shaped cookies, played games, and participated in a festive Easter egg hunt filled with toy eggs, candy, and raffle tickets redeemable for toys.<\/p>\n<p>&ldquo;Events like this help strengthen the bond between mother and child,&rdquo; said Director Tommy Johnson of the <span aria-label=\"Hawaii\">Hawai&#699;i<\/span> Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. &ldquo;Kids\u2019 Day could not be possible without our dedicated staff at <abbr>WCCC<\/abbr> and community partners.&rdquo;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_214576\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-214576\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/kapiolani-wccc-kids-day-3-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"scones\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-214576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/kapiolani-wccc-kids-day-3-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/kapiolani-wccc-kids-day-3-130x73.jpg 130w, https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/kapiolani-wccc-kids-day-3.jpg 676w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-214576\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Scones prepared for <abbr>WCCC<\/abbr>\u2019s first Kids\u2019 Day event of 2025.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The women who helped to prepare the Kids Day meal received their <span aria-label=\"Kapiolani\">Kapi&#699;olani<\/span> <abbr>CC<\/abbr> culinary certificates in December 2024 during a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hawaii.edu\/news\/2024\/12\/17\/kcc-celebrates-wccc-culinary-arts-grads\/\">special graduation ceremony<\/a> at <abbr>WCCC<\/abbr>, in front of more than 30 family members and supporters. <\/p>\n<p>Shinsato added, &ldquo;The women\u2019s attitudes and capacity for learning are second to none.
