A showcase tent highlighted the college&#8217;s programs, from hands-on mechatronics demonstrations to a fine arts table where guests screen-printed headbands. Visitors also tested their knowledge at a Japanese trivia booth, tried calligraphy, and sampled treats prepared by the culinary arts program in a nearby tent.<\/p>\n<h2>Weaving traditions<\/h2>\n<p>The opening ceremony honored the 80th anniversary of the end of World War <abbr title=\"roman numeral 2\">II<\/abbr>, weaving together Hawaiian and Japanese traditions. Chancellor Carlos Pe\u00f1aloza and a group of Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> employees welcomed the community with an oli (chant) and <span lang=\"haw\">H\u014d&#699;oia &#699;\u0100ina<\/span>, a recognition of the land that grounds the college and its education centers.<\/p>\n<p>More than 80 food and merchandise vendors lined the campus, while performances from groups including Ryugen Taiko, Waipahu Soto Mission Bon Dance Class, and Hawaii Eisa Shinyuu Kai energized the crowd. The festival also featured the debut of the Osaka Expo bon dance, adding to the excitement.<\/p>\n<p>Reflecting on the day&#8217;s success, Chancellor Pe\u00f1aloza shared a heartfelt message with the Leeward <abbr>CC<\/abbr> &#699;ohana: &ldquo;We hosted thousands of community members on our campus, celebrating culture and creating lasting memories.
